Project Strategy Director Job Overview

The Project Strategy Director (PSD) is responsible for leading Luci project teams and clients to develop the project vision, content, creative strategy, visitor experience, planning and design of Luci projects. This role is critical to ensuring the success of Luci projects by combining strategic creative leadership with project management skills to effectively guide and champion project teams. In partnership with the Project Creative Director, the PSD ensures Luci’s projects are developed and designed to the highest standards and in accordance with project scope.

The PSD maintains an understanding of the project’s overall strategic and creative vision, including management of issues, risks, feedback and project change requests to ensure successful and on-time project delivery. They drive the project process and continue to improve it to ensure that it is effective for all team members involved. The PSD is responsible for carrying out projects and keeping company leadership and clients informed as to how their assigned projects are progressing.


The Project Strategy Director ensures that the project team produces the required deliverables within the specified constraints of project goals, and based on evolving project needs. They are responsible for supporting the project team in developing the project vision and planning, content development, design coordination with internal and external team members, and client relationship management. 


Essential Job Functions


Project Leadership & Oversight

  • Drives overarching creative and strategic process for achieving project vision by empowering and supporting the project team to successfully develop and design the project.
  • Lead project approach and creation of project work plan: Create project work plans and manage timelines and process for project and creative team collaboration, development of exhibition design, schedule and plan for meetings and important milestones throughout the project.
  • Responsible for project health and direction: Works closely with Luci Leadership to make decisions on behalf of the project. Main mechanism by which Luci Leadership is kept informed of project health and project development
  • Responsible for creative alignment across departments: Provides guidance on creative processes, flags concerns and opens the door to creative pathways for project work. Works with the leadership team to find solutions that are in the best interest of the team and the project.
  • Lead and facilitate team creation of all client deliverables
  • Identify potential problems in team resourcing, timing, client management, etc. and work with Leadership and team members to address before they arise
  • Maintain scope of work throughout the life of the project: Provides structure and guidance around strategy, timeline, and details of project deliverables. Tracks progress, and identifies when work and deliverables are out of scope. Identifies when and what additional resources are needed through project development.
  • Informs project schedule, to be created and maintained by Project Manager


Project Liaison
  • Act as Luci company ambassador with existing clients, building relationships for continued business
  • Hold primary responsibility for client relationship and is the client-go-to for all project communication, responsibility and accountability
  • Constant presence on the project from beginning to end
  • Advocate for the client’s needs and vision among the Luci team and project partners
  • Lead and plans all project presentations
  • Listen to client needs and guide the project team towards developing responsive solutions
  • Interview and help select project partners, in collaboration with company Leadership
  • Manage relationship with project partners, and ensure work products align to client and project vision from a unified point of view
Project Team Coordination
  • Lead project team throughout the life of the project, supporting effective coordination and collaboration between all internal and external partners
  • Support creative alignment and interdisciplinary collaboration
  • Coordinate with Department Managers and Operations Manager on resourcing and keeping project on schedule and on budget. 
  • Provide support and troubleshoot issues with project teams and department leads
  • Own and communicate project schedule and work plan changes to Studio Operations and all Department Heads and Project Team
  • Act as an internal quality control check, manage ongoing quality control and participate in quality issue resolution
  • Provide energy, support and resources for company learning, including best practices and trends in: storytelling, visitor experiences, corporate experience planning, briefing/experiential learning.
  • Work with Operations Manager to keep close watch on budget and resources to maintain project success metrics
Experience Strategy and Development:
  • Develop and facilitate project team and client brainstorming sessions: plan, facilitate, and synthesize. Package and distribute outcome of sessions
  • Content Development Support: work closely with project team, client, and other experts/advisors to: identify stories within the exhibit/project, develop content bubble diagrams, exhibit flow, story narrative, define how stories will be communicated (graphics vs. artifacts vs. interactives, etc.)
  • Oversee multimedia development including: concepting, defining objectives, creating and distributing RFP’s, managing media partners, 
Skills and Requirements:
  • 5 years overall related experience in Museum Exhibit Design, Themed Entertainment, Branded Environments, Experiential Agency work, Event Production
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a client-facing role, focused in creative development or strategy, agency background and grasp of project management ideal
  • Proven capability to work with multiple clients at a time in a fast-paced environment
  • Proven leadership in creative collaboration, and strategic project planning based on client and project needs
  • Solid understanding of user and visitor experience
  • Solid understanding of built and physical environment
  • Must be a critical thinker with strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to provide leadership for a project team
  • Have an excellent grasp of workflow and scheduling
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Successfully proven leadership skills
  • Ability to interface and facilitate workflow between clients and vendors simultaneously
  • Demonstrated research and writing ability including proposal writing, technical writing, and narrative writing
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Knowledge and experience using the Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office
  • Understanding of confidentiality and protocol
