Communications Manage
Position Summary:
The Communications Manager is responsible for the communications efforts of the Maclay School. This key member produces engaging, informative, and compelling content that furthers Maclay’s communications objectives. The Communications Manager will design and execute a strategy to engage all constituents to align with Maclay’s communications priorities. The individual in this position will utilize several platforms, including print, web, and email, and should have working knowledge of best practices for each vehicle of communication. This role is onsite in the Advancement Office and requires detailed attention to the constant and evolving events and activities on campus and communicate necessary information and/or promotions.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Works with the Director of Marketing and Enrollment Strategies to develop and implement a strategic communications plan(s).
- Writes and edits communications targeting the entire Maclay community, including, but not limited to, donors, prospective donors, alumni, parents, grandparents, and friends of the School.
- Contributes to school publications, including but not limited to a biannual Virtu magazine and annual report. Duties include content writing, photography, proofing, graphic designer communication and printer coordination.
- Responsible for collection and verification of one school information for the Enews and deliver to school- wide community each Monday.
- Maintain school email database for parents, students, athletics, alumni, and donor constituents in Constant Contact.
- Maintain school website including by not limited to faculty directory, all parent information, division Quicklinks, handbooks, summer reading, Back to School information, athletic pages, etc.
- Create content and promotional material for social media that reflects the mission and philosophy of the school, promotes students and faculty, as well as the community.
- Coordinate school and facility calendar for event spaces including meeting with parties involved in cleaning, set up, proper Maclay standards, and transition back to daily use.
- Create and maintain school wide surveys including but not limited to parent satisfaction surveys, new family surveys, students surveys, and various other event survey needs.
- Create graphics and flyers for MCA events, school-wide events, fundraisers and other activities.
- Attend and cover school events by taking photos and writing summaries for bi-annual magazine and social media.
- Manage Greater Giving website creation and payment portals for Alumni Golf tournament, Homecoming activities such as Hall of Fame and reunions, and the Maclay Auction.
Other duties as assigned.
This position reports to the Director of Marketing and works closely with the Advancement team within the Advancement Office.
This position is 40-hours a week 12 months a year with some weekend and evening events.
Position Requirements
Position Requirements:
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited university with a degree in a related field.
- At least five years of progressive experience in a communications, education, fundraising, or marketing setting are preferred.
- Outstanding reporting, writing, editing, and proofreading ability.
- Stays up-to-date on communications best practices and industry trends
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Superior client service skills, internally and externally.
- Strong attention to detail and follow through required.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Ability to multitask and handle multiple projects with deadlines at the same time.
- Ability to work quickly and accurately.
- Ability to work as a team member and display positive behaviors.
- Ability to be flexible, collaborative, and work on a variety of projects.
- Resourcefulness; creativity; ability to think ahead.
- At various times throughout the year, the employee is required to work outside of regular business hours for various job-related functions of the Advancement Office. The employee will receive as much advance notification as possible for these events and is required to attend them as part of their essential duties.
- Must be willing to attend professional development training.
Preferred Skills and Abilities:
- Experience Office 360 products (word, excel, outlook) as well as Adobe Acrobat.
- Experience with Finalsite, Canva, Constant Contact, FACTS, Blackbaud, and/or other Advancement and Stewardship focused platforms.
- Experience with photography.
- Experience creating social media posts.
- Experience with creative design.
- Experience with video a plus.
