GENERAL DESCRIPTION

 

Under general direction of the Director of Children’s Services or designee, the Parents Night Out – Respite Provider  is responsible for caring for all children’s needs but not limited to physical, intellectual, personal, emotional and social according to their development.  To communicate and provide a safe, loving, secure, enjoyable environment that is positive for the children and parents.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  1. Shows respects to the children, parents and staff.

 

  1. Provides flexibility, understanding, patience, and cooperation with the purpose and service of the program.

 

  1. Follows discipline guidelines.

 

  1. Maintains open communication with parents.

 

  1. Provides frequent interaction with children includes but not limited to:
    1. Listening skills.
    2. Responsiveness.
    3. Positive influences, discipline and guidance.
    4. Comfortable, relaxed, happy, involved in play recreation and activities.
    5. Sensitivity to socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic, religious backgrounds and individual needs.

 

  1. Willingness to participate in activities leading to professional growth in child development, education, and training related to the needs of the children.

 

  1. Maintains supplies and requested items.

 

  1. Assures the equipment and materials are accessible, in good condition and reports any repairs needed to the appropriate person.

 

  1. Implements and effectively utilizes materials at the center.

 

  1. Takes all responsibility for all activities includes but not limited to:
    1. Knowing the whereabouts of assigned children.
    2. Performs all childcare duties as assigned.
    3. Prepares rooms for each session and puts away materials when sessions are over.
    4. Changes or helps in potty with children.
    5. Makes sure children uses the proper sanitation procedures.
    6. Supervises children at all times.

 

  1. Reports to the Director of Children’s Services or designee changes in appearance, attitude, behaviors, that may happen.
 

 

  1. Completes accident/incident reports to the Director of Children’s Services or designee and makes copies for parents and/or guardians.

 

  1. Follows housekeeping guidelines:
    1. Vacuum/sweep/mop,
    2. Disinfect toys/equipment,
    3. Clean toilet, sink, and mirror,
    4. Restock soap, paper towels, and toilet paper,
    5. Empty trash and replace bags for classrooms, staff lounge, bathroom, and storage rooms.

 

  1. Communicates, retains, and releases information (both written and verbal) on a need-to-know basis and in accordance with the Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities Confidentiality Act and Macon Resources, Inc. Policies and Procedures.

 

  1. Practices and enforces MRI Safety Policies and Procedures and assures the safety of employees persons/families served, agency guests, and agency property.

 

  1. Keeps supervisor informed verbally and in writing of problems and activities within assigned area of responsibility; refers matters beyond the limit of authority and expertise to the supervisor for direction.

 

  1. Performs special projects or other related work within the scope of the job responsibilities of this position as required or requested.

 

  1. Required to attend department training days.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

 

  1. Must be at least 19 years of age.

 

  1. High school diploma or GED.

 

  1. Requires experience working with children.

 

  1. Must be able to adhere to the Safety Policies and Procedures of MRI.

 

  1. Must be able to complete MRI training requirements.

 

  1. Must have or be able to obtain first-aid and CPR certification within 60 days of employment and maintain certification throughout employment.

 

  1. Must be able to adapt to frequent change and perform adequately when confronted with critical or unexpected issues; make sound clinical judgments based on sound reasoning in daily and emergency situations.

 

  1. Must be able to communicate effectively and diplomatically in both oral and written form and be able to meet and work with the public

 

  1. Must be able to identify and implement creative solutions to problems.

 

  1. Must be able to organize and prioritize work.

 

  1. Must be able to work flexible hours.

 

  1. Must have reliable transportation to conduct agency business and/or to transport individuals served as needed; must maintain a valid Illinois Drivers License and a good Motor Vehicle Record; and must maintain personal auto insurance with minimum coverage of Bodily Injury-Liability per Person of $100,000 and Liability per Accident of $300,000, Property Liability of $100,000; Medical Payments of $5,000; and Uninsured/Underinsured Person of $100,000 and Accident of $300,000.

 

  1. Must be able to meet the following physical capabilities:
    1. Lift and carry 50; able to assist in lifting and transferring an individual who is non-ambulatory from sitting to standing; standing to lying; and back to sitting from all positions.
    2. Full range of mobility -- pull, push, turn, stoop, kneel, reach, bend.
    3. Stand for up to 45 minutes.
    4. Vision correctable to 20/20 or sufficient to complete job responsibilities.
    5. Exhibit manual dexterity.
    6. Adequate hearing.

 

  1. Must be able to counsel, advise, teach, resolve conflicts, and direct staff, individuals and families.

 

  1. Must be able to utilize a phone, computer, word processing software, E-mail, and the filing system.

 

  1. Must have a means of notifying his/her supervisor if unable to report to work.

 

  1. Must be able to summarize, synthesize and analyze data/information.
