INTRODUCTORY STATEMENT: We're looking for a Senior Vice President Tax to join Macquarie AirFinance, a global aviation lessor providing aircraft and capital to the world’s airlines. As a leader of the Tax department, you will help the company manage all the tax affairs of the Group, in all the locations where we operate globally. You will have strong written and verbal skills, and a deep background in tax accounting and enjoy working with complex tax issues in a business that operates globally. In addition, you are naturally analytical and enjoy finding solutions and making recommendations to solve complex problems involving aircraft purchases, ownership, leasing, sale, and financing transactions. You are curious, would enjoy learning about the aviation industry, and thrive working in a team environment and collaborating cross-functionally. The location of this job can be in San Francisco or Dublin Ireland.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
The Senior Vice President - Tax supervises the tax department staff and reports to the CFO.
SUMMARY OF JOB DESCRIPTION
The SVP of Tax has responsibility for all tax affairs of the Group in all jurisdictions in which it operates, including those jurisdictions in which the Group has subsidiaries (primarily, but not limited to, the United Kingdom, the Republic of Ireland, and the United States) and all jurisdictions in which the Group does business (approximately 45 as of March 2022). Key responsibilities include the design and structuring of the tax elements of the Group’s transactions (aircraft purchases, ownership, leasing, sale, financing, etc.) globally, responsibility for and management of the Group’s tax provision, management of the Group’s tax reporting, compliance and planning activities globally, other related compliance efforts, design and implementation of tax structure globally, and the effective communication of tax objectives and strategies to the leadership team.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Optimize the corporate structure and processes to align with and support business operations
- Develop and implement tax planning strategies in connection with the Group’s activities and business objectives
- Manage the Group’s tax provision, financial statement reporting, and related disclosures
- Guide strategies to mitigate tax risk
- Effectively communicate tax objectives and strategies to the Group’s senior executives
- Effective management of the tax group’s staff and relationships with tax advisors worldwide
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent, and post-graduate qualifications including a Masters's in tax strongly preferred; or 15 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Must be able to interpret and counsel complex tax issues involving multiple global jurisdictions and appropriately recommend solutions/courses of action
- Demonstrated ability to leverage extensive tax accounting and general corporate accounting expertise
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills
- Strong experience of combined corporate and public accounting experience
- Comprehensive knowledge of the US and international tax laws, reporting requirements, and regulations
- Commitment to excellence and high standards
- Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work hard and with enthusiasm in an environment with constantly changing priorities
- Must be willing to travel on business both domestically and internationally
