What are the responsibilities and job description for the Product Designer position at Macro Plastics?

Macro Plastics, a division of IPL, is currently recruiting for a high-performing Product Designer to join our dynamic team. This ideal candidate would reside in either Shelbyville, KY.
Macro Plastics is the world’s largest manufacturer of bulk plastic containers. Based in Kentucky with sales and manufacturing facilities located worldwide, providing innovative business solutions for the agricultural, food processing, retail, and industrial markets.
Purpose:
Develop IPL's new products ensuring that they are designed according to IPL's specification and design requirements. Work closely with Project Managers, Product Experts and Product Managers in the development of new products. In addition, the Product Designer will prepare future product presentations for presentation to Product Managers and Sales Directors. Finally, the Director of Innovation will participate in the implementation of drawing and design standards and other departmental processes to improve their efficiency.
Main areas of responsibility and duties:
Key Responsibility: Management of activities related to product design
Tasks:

  • Plan and coordinate the various activities related to product design from step 0 (ideation) to step 5 (product launch).
  • Ensure that the validation of the virtual product has been done before sending the 3D to the moulder to ensure that the new product will meet the required specifications
  • Act as a design and product advisor to other designers, technicians, and interns (as needed)
  • Performs all other related tasks that may assist in the efficient operation of the department.

Key Responsibility: Management of activities related to sales support and IT products for the design.
Tasks:

  • Prepare concepts, images, and presentations to support sales with new products
  • Monitor products from the competition that can help us improve our products or develop new ones.
  • Implement and maintain a "PDM" type document management system for the R&D department.
  • Participate in the implementation of IT tools related to product development.

Key Responsibility: Develop strategies and standards for product design.
Tasks:

  • Develop design standards for all types of series developed by IPL and Encore, among others;
  • Environmental product such as Mastercart, Ctzencart, Luup, etc.
  • Bulk packaging product such as Inpack, Truspack , Series 12, Series 30, Industrial Series, Eco pail, etc.
  • Handling products such as Flapnest, Fisheries series, Stacknest, etc.
  • Implementing a strategy for ideation at IPL.

Safety and Sustainability Expectations:

  • Contribute to improving and maintaining C-TPAT, SQF/HACCP and ISO procedures and standards;
  • Knowledge of standards C-TPAT, SQF/HACCP and ISO;

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, FORMAL EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS OR EQUIVALENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering / Industrial Design or equivalent experience;

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE - NATURE AND LENGTH OF TIME

  • 2-5 years of experience in product design with experience in injection molded plastic product design is an asset.
  • 2 to 5 years of experience in sales or marketing support

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS - SKILLS REQUIREMENTS

  • English and French Bilingual essential;
  • Excellent knowledge of Solidworks, Creo, PDM, Solidworks plastics, Solidworks simulation, Photoshop and other IT design tools is an asset;
  • Knowledge in database management;
  • Knowledge of the Office software suite;
  • Knowledge of IT support for engineering software.

Leadership requirements

  • Ensure that the design work performed by the designers or others in the department is done according to the design requirements requested by the R&D department.
  • Ensure that product design also meets established design standards.
  • Initiate the preparation of future product presentations for marketing and sales
