MADISON CONSOLIDATED SCHOOLS
Position Title: 12 Month Full-Time Custodian
Reports to: Head Custodian, Principal, and Director of Facilities
FLSA: Non-exempt
Summary of the position: To provide students and staff with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean and efficient place in which to learn, work, play and develop.
Qualifications: High School Diploma or Equivalent
Supervises: None
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Keeps building and premises, including sidewalks,driveways, and play areas need and clean at all times.
Performs painting duties as required.
Shovels, plows, and salts walks, driveways, parking areas, and steps as appropriate.
Checks daily to ensure that all exit doors are open and all panic bolts are working properly during the hours of building occupancy.
Raises the United States flag at or before 8:00 a.m. each school day, and lower it at or after 3:30 p.m. (This is determined by the Principal).
Sweeps, dusts, and empties trash in the classroom daily. Dusts furniture as needed.
Cleans corridors each day, and during the day when conditions require it.
Scrubs, wet mops and disinfects restroom floors daily, and cleans all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains daily.
Washes all windows on both the inside and outside at least twice each year, and more frequently if necessary.
Keeps the grounds free from rubbish.
Performs such yard keeping chores as grass cutting, tree trimming, and the like, as necessary to maintain the school grounds in a safe and attractive manner.
Keeps all floors in a clean and attractive condition and in a good state of preservation.
Cleans all chalkboards at least once a week.
Makes such minor building repairs as he/she is capable of.
Reports major repairs needed promptly to the head custodian.
Maintains on a regular schedule all motors and other mechanical equipment requiring scheduled servicing.
Reports immediately to the head custodian and principal any damage to school property.
Remains on the school premises during school hours, and during non-school hours when the use of the building has been authorized and his/her attendance is required by the head custodian (except during thirty (30) minute dinner break).
Assumes responsibility for the opening and closing of the building each school day for determining before leaving that all doors and windows are secured, and all lights, except those left on for safety reasons, are turned off.
Moves furniture or equipment within buildings as required for various activities and as directed by the head custodian and/or principal.
Complies with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish, waste, paints and fuels.
Performs any necessary clean-ups as emergency may dictate.
Sweeps, mops, wet washes, and vacuums floors in assigned areas.
Other duties assigned by principal, head custodian or director of buildings and grounds.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
