We are looking for an experienced, talented individual to join our team as a Concrete Foreman. Through proper management of a concrete crew, ensure safe, timely and proper repair, replacement, and/or construction of assigned concrete projects such as sidewalks, driveways, curb and gutter, headwalls, bridge rails, and other projects as assigned. Proper management includes recruiting, hiring, teaching, leading, and scheduling a crew typically consisting of an operator and one or two concrete laborers. This effort will require effective two way communication with the Commissioners, Water Department Operations Foreman, County Engineer, and others as assigned. Our ideal candidate has considerable professional experience in construction, particularly with concrete projects. You must also possess excellent leadership and communication skills.
- Ensure a safe working environment through training, inspections and daily safety briefings
- Recruit, hire and manage concrete equipment operator, concrete laborers
- Through training, demonstration, and participation ensure high quality construction of concrete improvements primarily including sidewalks, driveways, curbs and and gutter, headwalls, bridge rails, and other projects as assigned
- Create, maintain, and administer concrete work scopes, including those involving reinforced concrete, structural concrete, concrete forming, and concrete finishing
- Construct concrete cut-off forms, including forming and bracing
- Supervise workers throughout the shift, ensuring safety, appropriate work stoppages, and organization
- Resolve problems with projects, materials, and workers as they arise
- With assistance and / or direction from the County Engineer, coordinate and manage work load and schedule of crew members
- Inspect and sign off on concrete work performed by the crew
- Develop, implement, and maintain quality assurance protocols
- Ensure operational activities meet deadlines
- Overseeing all activities pertaining to concrete preparation, placement, installation, finishing, and curing
- Dividing concrete construction projects into different stages and evaluating how much labor and materials are required for each stage
- Maintaining accurate records of the number of hours worked and the number of materials used for each project
- Inspecting concrete after the formwork and shoring has been removed and instructing concrete laborers on how to correct defects and concrete roughness
- Schedule concrete delivery
- Other duties as assigned
- 3 years of concrete construction experience, including leadership or supervisory roles
- Experience in a leadership or supervisory position
- Knowledge of concrete construction methods, materials and processes
- Proven experience inspecting concrete for defects
- Knowledge of concrete forming and finishing methods
- Detailed knowledge of concrete construction procedures and OSHA guidelines
- Experience with blueprint reading and managing crews
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
Demonstrate the ability to properly form, pour, finish and cure concrete structure. Demonstrate the ability to manage a crew of employees in a manner that builds teamwork and leads to the effective completion of successful projects in a timely manner.
Physical RequirementsWork is accomplished primarily outdoors, occasionally indoors, and in all types of weather conditions/environments. The employee will be exposed to and working near moving mechanical parts and environment. Constant and proper use of personal protective equipment is required. The employee is frequently required to use hands to handle, feel or reach with hands or arms. Employee is required to regularly lift, carry, push, and pull materials and tools up to 100 lbs. using abdominal and lower back muscles repeatedly or continuously over time.
Certifications and Licenses Required- Must hold a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (or obtain within six months of employment), and be insurable by the Madison County Commission's risk underwriters.
- Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) will be obtained and reviewed annually.
- Must be able to pass a DOT Commercial Driver's physical and drug screen.
- Must be registered for the FMCSA DOT Clearinghouse if you have a CDL license.
