What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part time laborer position at Madison County Commission?
(All duties listed may not be included in any one position nor does the list include all tasks found in a position of this class.)
- Cuts grass, weeds, and brush; cleans culverts, drains, and ditches; loads and unloads trucks; spreads sand, gravel, and asphalt; puts up road signs.
- Removes obstructions such as trees and branches, from the highways.
- Breaks concrete using an air hammer; carries sand, concrete, asphalt and cement; applies patching materials to road surfaces.
- Picks up garbage and refuse and dumps it in a truck.
- Directs truck drivers where to dump refuse.
- Acts as flagman and directs traffic where roads are under construction.
- Assists skilled workers by carrying materials and tools, or performing unskilled tasks such as mixing mortar or drilling holes.
- Washes, greases, and assists in servicing equipment to include minor repairs.
- Moves furniture or other heavy equipment as required.
- Performs other related work as required.
Education and Experience
- Any combination of education and experience equivalent to experience as a common laborer.
Knowledge, Skill, and Ability
- Knowledge of the use of simple tools.
- Ability to understand and follow oral instructions.
Physical Requirements
- Must be available for 24-hour on-call duty for emergencies within the assigned district.
- Must have the ability and sufficient strength to do the heavy lifting and carrying, and to work under sometimes adverse climatic conditions.
- Must be physically capable of lifting 50 lbs.
