Position Overview
Under the direction of the Facilities Director & the Assistant Facilities Director, supervises the Custodial Lead and work and workers assigned to the Custodial Staff. Responsible for the cleaning and minor maintenance work of the Courthouse. May be required to work different shifts depending on staffing and work needs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Trains custodial personnel in the correct methods of scrubbing, mopping, and waxing of floors; window washing; cleaning of offices and public rooms.
- Inspects work of custodial staff to ensure cleanliness and proper methods of work.
- Keeps record of any violations of rules and regulations, any failure to perform duties as instructed, and advises Assistant Director of Facilities of any employee related problems.
- Administers corrective actions to Custodial staff as needed.
- Periodically rounds County buildings serviced by Custodial staff, ensuring that all personnel are at their assigned work areas and that tasks are being completed properly and in a timely manner.
- Monitors cleaning supplies and orders refills on chemicals and tools as needed from County Warehouse and County vendors.
- Works with Custodial Lead to ensure there is cleaning coverage when there is a shortage of employees.
- Provides guidance and leadership to Custodial Lead and Custodial Staff on cleaning methods and orders of operation pertaining to the daily, weekly and monthly assigned tasks.
- Maintains record of work performed, attendance and time records of custodial employees and log of any incidents during the shift. Also provides completed detailed Leave requests, and Early in and out forms to be turned in daily.
- Checks equipment in various areas of the building for proper functioning of heating and cooling systems. Summons appropriate supervisor or skilled technicians in the event of a malfunction or emergency.
- Communicate effectively with County directors, staff and members of the public.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education, Experience, and Qualifications
Education
- Must be a high school graduate or equivalent. Requires a minimum of five years experience in commercial cleaning and supervision of subordinate workers.
- Knowledge of methods, equipment and materials used in custodial maintenance.
- Experience with minor maintenance repairs on cleaning equipment.
- Extensive knowledge of cleaning techniques for various finish types and flooring.
- Ability to supervise custodial personnel.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to maintain records of instrument readings of equipment and/or utilities.
- Ability to prioritize job assignments.
- Ability to make sound decisions regarding the supervision of employees, in overseeing the work of the assigned shift, and keeping the Assistant Director of Facilities informed as required.
- Ability to take appropriate disciplinary action on employees under their supervision.

Physical Requirements
- Must be willing and able to work any assigned shift. Must have physical ability to climb, bend, stoop, crawl, and lift up to 50 pounds.
Certification or Licenses Required
- A valid Alabama driver’s license is required.
