**Job Title: Registered Nurse Staffing Supervisor

**JOB OVERVIEW**
Responsible for managing all aspects of the processes and tasks of staffing. Directly supervises and mentors staffing coordinators. Responsible to ensure the nursing units are staffed with appropriate levels and mix of staff to provide safe patient care and to meet budget guidelines. Maintains the position control for all nursing units. Supervises the development and timely production of nursing work schedules. Plans, writes and maintains policies to ensure consistent and effective nurse staffing processes. Serves as the Functional System Administrator (FSA) to maintain the electronic staff scheduling system for nurse staffing. Serves as the liaison between all users of the electronic staff scheduling system and project support. Serves as the lead trainer for all nursing departments initiating use of the electronic staff scheduling system. Models customer service in all relationships with all personnel. Maintains a high degree of confidentiality. Work will be performed in an ethical and legal manner following organizational policies, processes, protocols and procedures. Responsible for quality service delivery and internal/external customer relations for Madonna as a whole, including upholding the mission and values for the department and facility.
**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS**
(INFORMATION)
A. Supervises the operations of the staffing processes and tasks.
B. Utilizes nursing knowledge of patient care areas to facilitate shift to shift for staff placement. Forecasting staffing needs based on levels of care and burden of care. Utilizing this information to present staffing needs to DONs during bi-weekly staffing meetings.
C. Daily adjusts staffing coverage as changes occur in census, absences, and employee turnover to provide best resources management and ideal patient care as defined in established budgeted guidelines.
D. Supervises and coordinates all aspects of nurse staffing to ensure accuracy of schedules to provide safe patient care and to meet budget guidelines.
E. Collaborates with nurse managers/directors to ensure optimal use of supplemental staff for unit scheduling.
F. Manages quality assurance data collection, analysis, and outcome improvement strategies related to nurse staffing.
G. Supervises the recording of employee status change information in a timely and accurate manner.
H. Discerns and takes action on long and short term staffing vacancy statuses and all critical needs.
I. Supervises the daily maintenance of time cards for nursing.
J. Coordinates the processes associated with external agency nursing staff and is the liaison with nurse staffing agencies.
K. Attends leadership classes and completes training classes as offered by the facility.
L. Supervises the accurate recording of employee holiday cycles.
M. Prioritizes multiple task requests from staff and administration.
N. Ensure scope of practice is met to highest capabilities to meet patient care needs.
(PEOPLE)
A. Supervises nurse staffing employees on individual performance to ensure quality service delivery and customer satisfaction.
B. Routinely organizes and conducts departmental meetings to ensure timely communication to nurse staffing employees on operational, educational and informative topics.
C. Supervises the daily adjustments of available staff to meet the current needs of each nursing unit according to established staffing patterns as well as other critical factors using nursing judgement.
D. Perceives customer relations as primary focus and continually strives to satisfy the needs of every customer in all areas of the work force.
E. Collaborates effectively with others. Uses effective conflict resolution techniques.
F. Maintains a working relationship with external software personnel to discuss electronic staff scheduling system issues or updates on an ongoing basis.
G. Participates in internal and external events to stay informed of staffing industry trends and activities. Will serve as a change agent for best practices.
H. Supervises external nursing agency facility access, placement and schedules. Responsible assessing, developing, and training all nursing employees on staffing operational definitions and the electronic staff scheduling system during.
I. Communicates and collaborates with Human Resources and payroll personnel on the work schedules of employees to assist in proper compensation.
J. Follows instruction from supervisor to perform other functions as assigned in order to achieve the goals within the department and/or system.
**QUALIFICATIONS**
Must possess current Nebraska R.N. licensure. Two years of recent experience in a health care facility with practice in rehabilitation and/or staff scheduling preferred. Must possess knowledge of current nursing practices and skills. Additional relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of formal post high school education. Knowledge of personal computers, word processing, web-based software and data based software (preferably Word, Excel, Outlook, and Internet Explorer) and office machines required. Prefer knowledge of nurse scheduling software and scheduling patterns and methods.
