What are the responsibilities and job description for the HR Manager position at Magna CCMi?
The Human Resource / EHS Manager is responsible for all phases of the Human Resources and Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) activities at CCMi Automotive. This includes all Employment, Recruitment, Training, Wage and Salary Administration, Record Keeping, Benefits Administration, Employee Relations, and Employee Activities, as well as Environmental, Health & Safety activities in compliance with the law and company policies. Responsible for assuring that the Human Resource Department is coordinating with Magna legal counsel regarding proper Immigration/Work Visa procedure. Plans and carries out policies relating to all phases of Human Resources and EHS activities by performing the duties personally and/or through subordinate members of the Human Resources /EHS Team. The Human Resources / EHS Manager is the appointed Management Rep for OHSAS 18001 and ISO 14001.
The Human Resource Manager is responsible to ensure that the Customer, People, and Investor goals are balanced and met.
Essential Functions of the Position:
- Leads the Human Resources and EHS department
- Provides leadership and direction to the management team, ensuring that at CCMi Automotive Industries we maintain a positive, healthy employee relations climate and that we are managing to principles set forth in the Magna Employees Charter.
- Personally, and through the efforts of the EHS Supervisor, develops programs that will assure a safe and healthy work environment for all Associates as well as be in complete compliance with OSHA Standards, Federal and State Laws. Personally, serves as a member of the Joint Health and Safety Committee. Reviews on a regular basis our Workers Compensation and Plant Safety Records. Be involved and make recommendations for improvement.
- Assures that the area is ready to pass system and process audits at any time
- Assures that safety critical trainings are performed as required
- Assures that all equipment related safety inspections are performed as required
- Assures personally and through the EHS team that all safety related procedures are followed (e.g., Lock out/Tag out, ram blocks, die blocks, etc.)
- Monitors and makes recommendations to ensure that the Training and Development needs for all CCMi Associates are being addressed. Personally supports, assists, and provides skills, enhancement training for all supervisors, line leaders, and management team members.
- Arranges and prepares agenda for any special legal seminars to be given by local counsel to CCMi Managers and Supervisors for the purpose of enhancing their understanding of U.S. Labor Laws.
- Responsible for the coordination of all training activities at CCMi Automotive
- Responsible for definition of skills required in conjunction with the Managers of the departments
- Responsible for Gap Analysis and countermeasures to assure that all associates receive appropriate training.
- Ensures that all TS-16949 training requirements are met.
- Assures that all training is effective, and results are measured.
- Ensures that ISO 14000 requirements are met.
- Ensures that OSHAS requirements are met.
- Assists and provides direction to development and implementation of Human Resources and EHS policies and procedures for the entire division. Establishes and maintains a Human Resource Policies Manual to support the Associates Handbook and define specifically work practices. Insures CCMi Associates Handbook is developed, maintained, and kept current.
- Keeps Management advised of any changes to State and Federal Regulations, current laws or new laws that are passed that would impact in the way we manage our Human Resources policies and procedures.
- Acts as a liaison working with CCMi’s Attorney to answer any charges filed through a regulatory State or Federal Agency. Consult with Magna Corporate Legal Counsel and local labor law counsel regarding any personnel relate EEOC filings against the division. Prepare notes and records needs for defending the division’s position.
- Administers and manages the Employment function for CCMi with specific responsibility to professional, management and technical recruitment activity. Participate in the Manpower Planning activity for the division. Develop, implement, and monitor standards and procedures for recruiting and hiring. This includes coordination of advertising; working with SC Job Service, reviewing applications and resumes; scheduling and conducting interviews; ensures background and reference checks are complete; coordinate sending out contingency offer letters; and ensure that all other aspects of the pre-employment process are properly implemented. Consistently work to develop new ways to find suitable candidates to meet our employment needs.
- Wage and Benefits: Coordinates the communication of all facets of our benefit plan to associates, and address questions and problems as they occur. Conducts an annual wage and salary benefit survey of Competitors as mandated by the Magna Charter. Plans annually. Oversees and monitors our Benefits Administrator as performed by the Human Resources Coordinator.
- Employee Relations: Schedules, prepares an agenda, records minutes, and participates in Monthly Associate Meetings. Assures that we maintain our Associate Bulletin Boards in a professional manner and that they are kept current. Counsels’ associates in reaction to disciplinary problems and any other problems that they wish to discuss. Maintains and open-door policy and assists managers and supervisors in resolving conflicts in an appropriate manner.
- Coordinates the efforts to accomplish the EOS scores.
- Coordinates Performance Reviews and ensures timely execution.
- Ensures the effective implementation and monitoring of all human resources services and employee relations activities including effective communications of such services and activities.
- Conducts a weekly HR staff meeting and oversee and coordinate the activities of HR Team Members.
- Assures that hiring processes are established to find appropriate personnel for CCMi Automotive
- Establishes a systematic approach to selecting and hiring the right people
- Monitors turnover and informs the Management team about trends
- Maintains Magna KPI database for division and ensure data is inputted into system by due dates
- Ensure each HR department employee works to a top 5 KPI requirement that aligns with overall HR Manager and division. Review status to plan weekly in department meetings
- Focus CCMi to meet Magna “Green” status on annual EOS Survey
- Supports the Unified Effort within Cosma.

Position Requirements:

- Physical Demands / Work Environment
- Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items such as papers, books, small parts; driving an automobile, etc. No special physical demands are required to perform the work. Frequent Business Travel can be expected.
Education and/or Experience
Bachelor’s Degree (B.A.) from four year college or university in Business Management with emphasis in Human Resources.
Areas of Training Required:
Must have New Hire Orientation, Safety, and Understanding of the Charter prior to or within the first two weeks of assuming the role.
