Mission of the Position


The Advanced Quality Risk Moderator (AQRM) for Driveline Systems (DS) NA will lead and take ownership of Advanced Quality Product Development of powertrain products. Strong focus on coordination with cross functional team to develop and implement Customer specific program requirements proactively executed through timelines. Also Responsible for the continuous improvement of engineering design processes, full Failure Modes Effects Analysis (FMEA) process and libraries to ensure a high level of design quality within the product development department. Working closely with each project team, will lead and assure complete and comprehensive risk analysis in all phases of the product design process, standardize the design quality methods, and deploy across the organization as well as promote continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities


  • Participates in Statement of Requirements (SOR) reviews with Customer and comprehends requirements to cascade and develop internal processes.
  • Develops quality plans to meet customer specific requirements.
  • Supports the quality of new program launches through collaboration of the program management and manufacturing facilities.
  • Involvement in problem solving, root cause analysis, developing corrective actions, inspections, and working with internal/external customers as needed.
  • Functions as the leader for Advanced Quality on Program Teams and ensures quality issues are resolved prior to launch of product (ensure mature quality at launch).
  • Oversees and leads cross functional teams through the development of Process Flow Diagrams, Process Control Plans, and other Quality-related documentation.
  • Key participant on cross-functional team developing Design and Process FMEAs.
  • Works with manufacturing plant and machine tool builders to develop capable manufacturing processes.
  • Ensures APQP and Quality-related GPMS process steps are being properly and thoroughly executed by program teams.
  • Ensures identification of key product and process characteristics and deploy necessary controls to ensure specifications are met in production.
  • Identifies and ensures best process and product practices are used across similar processes and products.
  • Tracks and maintains data analysis of key metrics and performance data as it relates to APQP strategy.
  • Develop DFMEA Activities:
    • Uses systematic reliability best practices in the development process to identify and prevent failure modes in products and design processes and assist in problem resolution.
    • Set-up and Coordinate FMEA work sessions on all active or new projects.
    • Set-up and maintain the libraries of FMEA knowledge.
    • Knowledge in APIS IQRM Software (FMEA tool) preferred.
    • Prepare risk analysis and summarizes for the project teams.
    • Keep track of and follow action items that are developed from FMEAs.
    • Research and organize all past knowledge and put into an archive that is accessible and organized. Document and maintain best practices within the department.
    • Participate in / Lead any FMEA training sessions.
    • Leads the work teams in proper FMEA development, including understanding the various types of FMEA’s but not limited to AIAG standards, VDA standards, and Software FMEA standards.
    • Determine and plan the best software tool the organization should use based on functionality vs. cost.
    • Maintain the master FMEA as well as other design quality tools and any license management that may be necessary to administer the system.
  • Works closely with other functions and aspects of reliability such as Fault tree analysis and other risk assessment processes.
  • Knowledge of Functional Safety Analysis, ISO-26262, requirements, processes, and deliverables.
  • Supports and adheres to policies, procedures, and operational guidelines related to established quality management system (IATF 16949, ISO-26262).
  • Builds trust, rapport at all levels from floor associates, management, and customers, facilitates the internal quality improvement process and team interaction.

Customers and Business Interfaces


  • Support of Project and Program Managers, Product Engineering, Advanced and Supplier Quality, Purchasing, Change Management along with Production Site (Launch Managers, Manufacturing and Process Engineers).
  • Production Component and Equipment Suppliers.
  • Direct interface with Customers and ability to work at a high level in Customer environment.

Requirements and Qualifications


  • Strong leader with effective written and verbal communication skills who will drive processes and resolve issues.
  • Business or Technical Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent experience required.
  • 3 – 5 years of experience in APQP Process AIAG.
  • 3 – 5 Quality Engineering experience.
  • 2 – 4 years of experience in Plant Operations.
  • Experience in the follow commodities would be a plus (Aluminum Castings, Electronics, Stampings, Machining, Heat Treat, Assembly Experience).
  • Software Experience a Plus.
  • CQE certification a Plus.
  • Experience in Electrification Powertrain Products a plus.
  • Working knowledge of PFMEA (APIS), QS / ISO / TS / IATF, GD&T, APQP and PPAP.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Microsoft Project and Minitab is a plus.
  • Excellent English written and verbal communication skills, Spanish is a plus.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills (8D, Shainin or Six Sigma training a plus).
  • Self-motivated, team player with the ability to lead a team.

Work Environment


Office Environment: 70%


The employee must be able to tolerate sitting for extended periods of time. It requires (Near/Far/Depth,Color) vision to be able to tolerate the eye strain associated with working on a computer throughout the workday. Must be able to tolerate the use of a keyboard and mouse on average 6 hours per workday.


Plant Environment\Ability to Travel: 30%


While working in the Plant environment, the employee will be exposed to machinery, moving equipment and material, moderate noise, airborne particles, fumes, and various levels of temperature created by the manufacturing process. Flexile with the ability to travel globally.
