What are the responsibilities and job description for the Optometric Technician - Brunswick/Freeport/Lewiston Float position at Maine Optometry?
We are a growing, multi-location practice in Southern Maine looking for a full-time Optometric Technician to deliver exceptional and professional customer service at our Brunswick, Freeport, and Lewiston locations. This is a float position that would cover shifts at all three locations regularly. Interested candidates must have a strong work ethic and an attitude to succeed.

The Optometric Technician assists the Optometrist with the vision correction of patients. The Optometric Technician will help with eye examinations, perform admin duties, and maintain and clean the examination equipment.
To be a successful Optometric Technician, you should possess strong communication and interpersonal skills. You should be detail-oriented and meticulous, with a keen interest in maintaining ocular equipment.
Essential Functions
- Assisting with patient care and eye examinations.
- Explaining the testing process to patients, preparing them, and administering tests on visual capabilities
- Taking patient histories, and accurately entering information into the medical record.
- Keeping records and inventory, and taking notes during examinations.
- Assisting patients on the insertion and removal of contact lenses as well as educating patients on the care and maintenance of lenses.
- Maintaining a clean environment for the patient
- Performing minor maintenance and repairs on examination equipment.
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- An Associate's degree as an Optometric Technician may be a benefit.
- An Optometric Technician Certification may be a benefit.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Self-motivation, and ability to work under pressure.
- Maintains and demonstrates knowledge and understanding of patient privacy rights under HIPAA guidelines.
- Maintains regular in-person attendance
