The Maine Legislature’s Office of Policy and Legal Analysis, a nonpartisan staff office of the Legislative Council, is seeking applicants for Legislative Analyst positions. These employees work in our Augusta Office, are enthusiastic about supporting the important work of the Maine legislature, and conduct themselves in a highly confidential, professional and nonpartisan manner.
Examples of Responsibilities: Responsibilities of a Legislative Analyst include staffing legislative committees and study commissions, analyzing legislative policy and legal issues, conducting research, drafting legislation and preparing study reports. Evening and weekend work are often required during the legislative session and may be required at other times depending on legislative needs.
Qualifications: A successful candidate will possess an advanced degree and will demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills, strong organizational skills and the ability to work effectively with committees and groups. Familiarity with the Maine legislative process and experience working in a nonpartisan capacity with a state or local legislative body or government agency are highly desirable.
Salary and Benefits: The salary range for this position is $67,537 to $94,036. The bi-weekly dollar values of some State-paid benefits for full-time employees include $14.60 for dental insurance; 13.16% of employee’s pay towards retirement; and, depending on the employee’s annual pay, at least 85% ($422.95) of health insurance premiums.
