What are the responsibilities and job description for the Gun Violence Intervention Outreach position at Making A Change Group?
We are looking for Intervention Specialists to work with our Gun Violence Intervention Network and Empowerment (GVINE) Program. GVINE is a new initiative in which Making a Change Group will engage with Chester residents ages 14-24, who are most at risk for perpetrating gun violence, as well as others in the community who have been adversely impacted by gun violence.
The Intervention Specialist are responsible for responding to neighborhoods experiencing escalation in violent incidents to collect data and gain leads, canvas neighborhoods and establish rapport with schools to identify potential violence interrupters, and conduct follow-up communication with clients as necessary. Ultimately, our Intervention Specialists work together to identify and train young people to be violence interrupters. This position is 10 hours a week with potential for increased hours in the future.
Responsibilities
- Respond to neighborhoods experiencing escalation in violent incidents to collect data and gain leads
- Canvas neighborhoods and establish rapport with local schools to identify potential interrupters
- Distribute marketing materials to local businesses (barbershops, hair salons, clothing stores, grocery stores, social media platforms, etc.)
- Source and screen participants/contacts
- Conduct follow-up phone screenings and/or meetings weekly
- Refer participants/families to the GVINE program and other MACG initiatives, as appropriate
- Participate in and facilitate monthly meetings with participants/contacts
- Adhere to program policies & procedures
- Maintain consistent communication with Program Participants, Project Coordinator & Case Manager, for referral purposes
- Complete requested reports & timesheets in a timely manner
- Log service hours, provide referral forms, complete case notes, and maintain progress notes relating to participants
- Participate in regular supervision with Project Director as well as team meetings & trainings
- Additional duties as assigned.
