What are the responsibilities and job description for the Accounting Specialist position at Manasquan Bank?

PRIMARY PURPOSE
The Accounting Manager is responsible for assisting senior members of the Finance Department establishing, coordinating, and maintaining an accounting system that accurately reflects the financial position of the Bank. The Accounting Manger will also play an integral role in the treasury function of the organization, helping to optimize the Bank’s capital structure, in additional to other accounting functions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES*

  • Oversees, and in some instances prepares, deliverables pertaining to the treasury, lending, retail branch, and tax functions, in addition to others, ensuring that adequate records are maintained of all transactions according to generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Assists management in optimizing the Bank’s capital structure, through strategic investments that align with the Bank’s strategic plan and monitoring cash forecast to determine liquidity needs.
  • Builds and maintains a high-performance culture through effective employee development and timely performance management, providing ongoing coaching and leadership to achieve targeted results.
  • Assists in the design, oversight, review, and preparation of reporting requirements, including quarterly regulatory reports, annual audited financial statements and internal management and board reports.
  • Reviews, and in some instances prepares, account reconciliations, ensuring that all general ledger accounts are reconciled in a timely and accurately fashion.
  • Works with auditors and examiners throughout year, providing documents and additional support as requested.
  • Evaluates workflow processes and procedures to develop, recommend, and implement procedural and system changes to increase accuracy and efficiencies.
  • Resolves non-routine accounting concerns for accounting staff and other departments by researching and interpreting accounting policy, applying observations and recommendations to operational issues, and ensuring compliance with generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Provides accounting information and recommendations to strategic plans and financial reviews ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Other duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS*

  • Thorough knowledge of current accounting concepts, practices, and procedures
  • Strong analytical and technical skills in working with figures.
  • Proficiency in the MS Office products, primarily Excel (analytical, formula, and financial functions)
  • Effective organizational, planning, and critical thinking skills.
  • Working knowledge of Fiserv banking software, preferred.
  • Effective communication skills – verbal, written, listening.
  • Ability to interface with multiple departments and personnel at various levels.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and accurately in both verbal and written form
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently
  • Ability to manage time, resources, and set priorities to accomplish multiple duties
  • Ability to maintain and report on confidential information in an appropriate manner
  • Ability to conduct tasks autonomously but can also work collaboratively

EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION*

  • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years relevant working experience in finance or accounting.
  • Prior relevant banking experience required.
  • Prior experience in a leadership position managing direct reports required.

WORKING CONDITION & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*
Working conditions are those of an “open” office environment, which can require the ability to manage some stress such as noise level from customers, employees, and general office equipment, etc. Daily use of wrists, hands, and fingers: to use computer, telephone, fax, copier, and general office equipment. Ability to hear and speak clearly for gathering simple to complex information from both customers and co-workers. Sitting for extended periods of time (up to 8 hours), standing, and walking up to 15% of work time.
