POSITION SUMMARY
Performs a variety of data entry duties, processing PCCs, birth and death certificates and a variety of patient information processes. Works under the oversight of the Health Information Technician III. Reports to the Director of Health Information Services.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Thoroughly reviews all CHAP Patient Encounter Forms (PEFs), ensuring accurate and complete demographic information is present. Fixes inaccuracies in RPS as needed.
2. Consults with physicians, nursing staff, laboratory, pharmacy, and radiology staff for clarification of discrepancies and incompleteness in documentation of PEFs.
3. Computes admission and discharge census statistics and enters data into the computer system.
4. Performs release of information as necessary.
5. Performs data entry of social, mental, psychiatric, medical, and other patient related data and information.
6. Assists in the preparation of disaster packets. Gathers vital statistical data and information, and prepares birth and death certificate software provided by the State of Alaska. Prepares paper death certificates and faxes them to the state. Processes morgue receipts.
7. Demonstrates discretion in handling confidentiality of all patients, hospital and physician related information.
8. Demonstrates discretion in handling confidentiality of all patients, hospital and physician related formation.
9. Completes error reports/audits for village visits (and others, as needed.)
10. Assists in scanning superbills/charge sheets to coding outsource company.
11. Process ANMC documentation.
12. Assists with the archiving of old/closed records.
13. Merge patient records as needed.
14. Demonstrates a positive customer service attitude at all times
15. Utilizes team building, problem solving and lean principles, in on-going quality improvement initiatives.
16. Other duties as assigned
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
High School Diploma or equivalent, two years of relevant work experience or relevant associates’ degree. Medical Terminology to be completed within in on year of hire. Prior HIM experience preferred. Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills.
