What are the responsibilities and job description for the Leaderman - Offshore position at Manson Construction Co.?
An Offshore Derrick Barge Leaderman is responsible to assist in all crane and deck operations lifting and moving materials and personnel safely to a designated location with precision, efficiency and accuracy. The employee must be able to work 8 to 12 hours, rotating shifts this will include an offshore rotation of 28 days on and 14 days off unless otherwise changed. Must be able to pass a post offer physical exam and drug screen.
Must observe all safety and security procedures at all times and utilize all equipment/materials properly. Must be prepared and able to exercise Stop Work Authority for any actions that appear unsafe, and report any potentially unsafe conditions. Must be able to pass a post offer physical exam and drug screening. Must have transportation to and from the jobsite(s).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES includes the following, additional duties may be assigned:
- Ensure safe rigging practices and procedures are followed at all times
- Assist Deck Foreman in supervising Riggers on shift
- Rely on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
- Perform a variety of supervisory tasks
- Be familiar with a variety of the field’s concepts, practices, and procedures
- Ensure all required permitting including JSA’s, risk assessments and L.O.T.O. are in place before any jobs requiring these commence
- Ensure all required personnel are present in order to complete a job task
- Supervise and coordinate the alignment, level, position, and anchoring of machinery and various operating systems on the vessel and / or platform
- Supervise, observe and assist with controlled crane movements in response to hand signals or radio commands by supervisor or signaler
- Supervise, coordinate and assist with the attachment of loads to rigging lines to provide support or prepare them for moving
- Ensures compliance with Manson’s Code of Ethics and Standards of Business Conduct.
- Responsible for practicing safe work standards and promoting an Incident and Injury Free (IIF) work environment as a condition of employment
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, and/or EXPERIENCE
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Three (3) years marine experience preferred. High school diploma/GED preferred. Must be able to communicate, take direction well, and work cooperatively with other colleagues. Must have ability to give and receive, understand, respond and follow verbal and written communications and instructions.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Valid picture identification required. Position will require valid Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC) and ISNetworld card. Certified training in all or any of the following preferred: Rigger, Fall Protection, Water Survival, Marine Trash & Debris, Fire Fighting – Incipient and SafeGulf.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The employee must be able to meet the physical requirements of this position, including:
- Able to perform mild to moderate physical labor as classified by the U.S. Department of Labor and work outdoors in all weather conditions on marine vessels, in and around heavy equipment/large machinery.
- Perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs, total body movements such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, and stooping for the handling, moving, positioning and installing of materials, equipment and manipulating controls.
- Able to wear all personal protective equipment (PPE) required of various construction work environments (hard hats, personal floatation devices, safety glasses, gloves, safety-toed shoes, respirators, etc.)
