About MAPSCorps
MAPSCorps (Meaningful, Active, Productive Science in Service to Communities) is a nonprofit organization that provides youth with meaningful employment and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) exposure through an innovative technology-based community asset-mapping program. Our mission is to train youth to produce high-quality data about community assets that everyone can use to improve the human condition.
Job Summary
The Program Coordinator will be responsible for ensuring seamless program delivery, quality control, and evaluation; building and maintaining relationships with community and school partners; and supporting the implementation of MAPSCorps in other cities, known as “replication sites”. During the summer, the Program Coordinator will support more than 10 Field Supervisors who will in turn supervise more than 60 Field Coordinators as they deliver MAPSCorps curriculum to and supervise the community asset mapping for more than 200 high school students across the Chicagoland area. During the academic year, the program coordinator will train high school and college youth in MAPSCorps After School curriculum.
Responsibilities
Program Operations
Manage all aspects of planning and preparation for Chicago programs
Recruit and provide ongoing support to seasonal staff members, in collaboration with the Program Director and Operations Team.
Develop and communicate plans to coordinate field teams, including mapping assignments and strategic adjustments to optimize efficiency, productivity, and safety, while creating a positive environment for all participants
Conduct remote and in-person trainings for replication sites. Occasional out-of-state, overnight travel may be required
Develop, document, implement, audit and continuously improve processes and procedures
Alumni & Community Engagement
Build, maintain, and support strong relationships between community partners, staff, alumni, funders, volunteers, and other stakeholders
Develop interactive workshops and present MAPSCorps data and program information to community members across Chicago
Cultivate the MAPSCorps Alumni Network, including Alumni Council meetings and other school-year programming
Program Evaluation & Strategic Planning
Ensure timely distribution and collection of evaluation tools (e.g., youth surveys) and provide strategic recommendations to improve evaluation processes
Analyze program data to inform future strategy and planning
Report to funders and other stakeholders on program successes and challenges
Collaborate with Positive Youth Development (PYD), argumentative literacy and data visualization literacy consultant(s) to improve program training and curriculum
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
3 years of experience managing a youth-serving, nonprofit program
Strong analytical and data visualization skills
Daily access to a reliable vehicle
Strong project management skills resulting in measurable success and growth
Successful track record of working with youth in underserved communities
Demonstrated leadership and skills in recruiting, hiring, and supervising staff
Passion for building programs that engage local communities
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with superb attention to detail
Positive attitude and willingness to work on a dynamic mixture of tasks, no matter how big or small
Experience working, living, and/or volunteering in Chicago communities
Integrity, maturity, and a good sense of humor
Fluency in Spanish is a plus
