What are the responsibilities and job description for the Spotter Operator position at Mars?
Job Description:
The Yard Hostler is responsible to ensure safe and efficient trailer movements for all internal trailer activity within the shipping yard providing the loaders with available trailers with little to no disruption to the loading/unloading process.
What are we looking for?
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 2-3 years’ work experience.
- Effective written & verbal communications skills.
- Self-directed with organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to work overtime and tight schedules in high pressure situations.
- Prior forklift experience a plus.
- Class A License.
Physical Requirements
- Sufficient mobility, strength, flexibility, hearing, and sight to access all job relevant areas and perform routine activities as necessary to deliver required results.
- Some pushing/pulling, bending/stooping, and lifting (up to 50 lbs.) necessary.
- Ability to work 8-12 hour shifts under stressful conditions such as heat, cold, high and/or confined spaces and have mobility with ability to climb ladders and stairs and do repetitive bending and twisting.
What will be your key responsibilities?
Responsible for the proficient execution of any combination of the following unit operations:
- Spotting Trailers - Ability to use yard truck to move trailers in/out of dock doors and wet receiving area with the use of chock procedures.
- Equipment Inspections - Conduct thorough yard truck, trailer and, if needed, forklift inspections prior to equipment operation. Accurate completion of inspection reports and appropriate repair work orders.
- Able to safely and accurately move trailers in and around the shipping yard at a rate of 80 to 100 moves in a single shift while using FIFO procedures on trailers.
- Keep an accurate inventory of empty and loaded trailers in the shipping yard.
- Will be required, at times, to use warehouse equipment and perform forklift operations such as loading and unloading, sanitation or inventory duties during periods of downtime.
- Participate and adhere to all food safety requirements, Quality Management Processes, and site safety programs.
