Job Description: Workforce Development Coordinator
Position: Workforce Development Coordinator
Reports to: Marshalltown Area Chamber of Commerce President/CEO
Status: Full time. Exempt. Variable schedule including evenings and weekends as needed.
Position function: The Workforce Development Coordinator is responsible for oversight of the workforce development activities of the Marshalltown Area Chamber of Commerce. The coordinator will work under the direction of the President & CEO of the Marshalltown Area Chamber of Commerce.
General responsibilities/tasks:
- Workforce Development * Develop and Launch a Home Base Iowa Program for Marshall County. * Work with President & CEO to develop incentive for job seekers.
- Ensure robust marketing effort for job seekers interested in Marshall County.
- Develop and maintain a strong working relationship with HR Managers throughout Marshall County by building a network of HR Managers that meets regularly. * This platform should be used to share new initiatives undertaken by our office, in addition to informing about new tools and resources by other entities.
- Coordinate programming to engage Marshall County K-12 teachers and districts to prepare and develop our workforce of the future.
- Develop working relationships with career placement personnel at Iowa colleges and universities, particularly Marshalltown Community College.
- Attend college career fairs promoting internships and employment opportunities at local companies and also promotes these fairs to local companies.
- Develop annual summer internship programming to engage interns from local companies with each other and the community.
- Develop and manage a concierge program for local companies that desire assistance in recruiting key hires.
- Facilitate NCRC testing to gauge workforce skills gap and develop programming to assist with retraining efforts.
- Engage with local non-profits to bring more individuals into the workforce.
- Actively assist local companies to reduce challenges & barriers to hiring employees.
- Partner with IowaWORKS Office to assist in promoting key labor information and programs with local employers.
- Coordinate and organize the Iowa Valley Leadership program.
- Community Relations * Represent the Chamber and Marshalltown community in a positive manner to the public, business stakeholders, and other appropriate audiences.
- Engage in appropriate community boards and organizations.
- Participate in local and state economic development and workforce organizations as appropriate.
- Attend City Council and Board of Supervisor meetings as needed.
- Serve as Staff Liaison to MTown YP Group.
- Administrative * Provide timely reports on the work of the Workforce Development program to the President & CEO, staff, boards, and others as deemed necessary.
- Continually pursue best practices and finds opportunities to augment the workforce solutions efforts for the businesses of Marshall County.
- Attend committee meetings as assigned.
- Assist with office administration as necessary; such as answering phones and assisting customers.
Education/Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in business or related field preferred.
- Two (2) years’ experience in related field.
- Demonstrated experience in initiating and monitoring several projects at once.
- Exceptional communication skills.
Other Requirements:
- Ability to work nights and weekends as required.
- Ability to lift 25 pounds.
- Valid driver’s license.
