PURPOSE OF YOUR JOB DESCRIPTION:
The primary purpose of your job is to plan, organize, develop, and administer physical therapy services in accordance with current applicable Federal, State, and local standards, guidelines and regulations and established policies and procedures as may be directed by the Administrator, to assure that the highest degree of quality care and safety can be maintained.
DELEGATION OF AUTHORITY:
You are delegated the administrative authority, responsibility and accountability necessary for carrying out your assigned duties.
JOB FUNCTIONS:

Evaluates each patients, establishes treatment plan and goals in cooperation with referring physician and patient.
Directly administers this treatment to patient or supervises treatments by department personnel.
Reviews department policies, procedures, manuals, job descriptions, etc., at least annually.
Maintains treatment records, progress notes and statistics as required.
Represents the facility and participates in meetings as directed.
Ensures Rehab receptionist receives charges for physical therapy rendered to patients.
Attends and participates in workshops, seminars, etc. to keep abreast of current changes in the health care field as well as to maintain professional status.
Able to evaluate and treat all age groups include pediatrics, adolescents, adult and geriatrics.
Assumes supervision responsibilities of Physical Therapy Manager as delegated by Physical Therapy Manager.
Maintains patient confidentiality and patient rights at all times.
Is alert for patient safety at all times.
Continually monitors the condition of equipment.
Communicates patient status, goals and treatment plan with other relevant disciplines and staff members.
Demonstrates competence in basic knowledge and direct clinical skills.
Evaluates for age-appropriate behavior motor skills and physiological norms of the above identified patients.
Recognizes patients' psychological development and modifies approaches for the above identifies patients.
Recognizes potential lifestyle changes resulting from illness that will interfere with the discharge plan and develops plan accordingly.
Identifies increased physical/emotional dependency needs and evaluates availability of support system for the above defined patients.
Interview/communication techniques are age-appropriate.
Assesses patients for signs and symptoms of abuse/neglect and refers to appropriate personnel and/or community agency.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
* Sits, stands, bends, lifts and moves intermittently during working hours
* Is subject to frequent interruptions
* Is involved with patients, residents, staff, government agencies/personnel, etc. under all conditions and circumstances
* Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset patients, family members, etc.
* Communicates with the medical staff and other hospital departments' staff
* Attends and participates in continuing training programs as they relate to the position
* May be exposed to infectious waste and diseases
* Is subject to lifting, carrying and supporting patients
* Must be constantly alert for patient safety
SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS:
* Must be able to read, write legibly, speak clearly and understand the English language
* Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action in a timely fashion
* Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with staff, patients, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public
* Must possess the willingness to work harmoniously with professional and non-professional personnel and the general public
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
* Must be able to move intermittently throughout the work day
* Must be able to speak and write the English language in an understandable manner
* Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of positions
* Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met
* Must function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity and the ability to work effectively with the CEO, physicians, department managers and the general public
* Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability
* Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset and, at times, hostile people within the facility
* Must be able to assist in the evacuation of patients
* Physical Therapist with MA license
EXPERIENCE:
* Must have, as minimum, experience as a therapist in a hospital, SNF or other related medical facility
* Must have training in rehabilitation and restorative therapy practices
