Directional Drill Operator / Locator
Duties/Responsibilities:
· Operates directional drill and locating, excavators, power shovels, stripping shovels, scraper loaders and backhoes.
· Prepares construction areas for underground utility installation
· Effectively completes excavation and related tasks such as backfilling excavations and breaking concrete or rock using appropriate equipment.
· Transports tools and other construction equipment to and from construction sites.
· Operates machinery used to open trenches and expose utilities.
· Inspects, fuels and performs routine vehicle maintenance prior to beginning shift.
· Consults digging plans, machine specifications, and safety procedures for specific tasks.
· Ensures work is completed to specification by observing grade stakes, material levels, hand signals, and other markers.
· Performs routine maintenance and repairs.
· Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
· Extensive knowledge of machinery operation and capabilities.
· Ability to complete safety awareness training.
· Excellent mechanical and problem-solving skills.
· Ability to follow instructions.
· Flexibility to operate multiple types of equipment.
Class A Drivers License
Education and Experience:
· High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
· Vocational school training or apprenticeship preferred.
· On-the-job training offered.
· CDL class license preferred.
Physical Requirements:
· Prolonged periods of operating machinery.
· Must be able to operate machinery in all weather conditions and terrains.
· Must have physical strength, balance, hand-eye coordination, and stamina necessary to complete jobs in various areas.
· Must be able to lift and carry up to 80 pounds and push and/or pull 50-pound loads at a time.
· Must be able to stand and walk up to eight hours per day and climb multiple sets of stairs while carrying materials weighing between 40 and 60 pounds.
· Must be able to ride in a vehicle up to four hours to travel to and from job sites.
· Must be able to work in different temperatures and changing weather conditions.
