WHAT IS THE JOB?
As Technical Designer for Sid Mashburn & Ann Mashburn, you will report to the EVP of Design & Product and will be responsible for ensuring all our garments are produced with the correct fit, construction and details. You will partner closely with the Design, Production and Quality Assurance teams to develop tech packs, own communicating all technical details to vendors, lead fit reviews, and revise patterns and construction as needed. You will drive improvement in our fits, construction, and processes to meet our brand standards and the goals of the business.
WHAT ARE THE RESPONSIBILITIES?
- Partner with Design to create tech packs in PLM/Be Product for suppliers to properly execute sampling/production following Design intent, including specs, pattern making, and construction sketches.
- Partner with Design to offer alternative construction options to meet design intent and margin targets for new silhouettes.
- Schedule and lead fit sessions by addressing all construction and fit issues for each garment.
- Identify fit problems and clearly offer solutions to correct.
- Spec and fit, cut and pin the fit samples as necessary to clearly identify revisions.
- Evaluate and measure incoming garments to ensure alignment with vendor supplied measurements.
- Understand the fit history and deadlines that are in place.
- Update spec packages in PLM/Be Product after each fitting using illustrator and photo shop to offer visual interpretation to the factories.
- Send and track comments and samples back to the factories ensuring constant follow-up.
- Own Final Production Specifications which include:
- measurements
- technical sketches of constructions
- trims
- graded specifications
- Act as the point of contact for vendors and answer questions regarding fit, specs, trims, and construction.
- Daily communication with vendors required.
- Monthly conference call touch base with vendors required.
- Identify potential production, quality and costing issues and make recommendations to ensure brand integrity.
- Provide technical insight into new silhouette development & manage brand block creation.
- Ensure consistent style aesthetic intent and construction from vendor to vendor on like styles.
- Effectively communicate with cross functional teams to ensure seasonal calendar milestone deliverables are met.
- Owns escalating issues when and where appropriate with supporting facts, root cause and possible solutions.
- Track workload efficiently to meet individual deadlines while pulling seasonal reporting from Be Product when needed.
- Own product Risk Assessment in partnership with QC partners prior to bulk production and ensure correct action plans are taken where necessary.
- Partner with QC on reviewing Pre-Production or Top of Production garments.
- Assist in remediation where necessary and possible.
- E-mail, phone and video conference communication with sourcing offices and suppliers as needed.
- Manage & organize a pattern library.
WHAT ARE THE ESSENTIALS?
- 5 Years of experience in Pattern Making & Technical Design in Menswear & Womenswear.
- Strong understanding of Men's & Women's Tailored Clothing.
- Strong understanding of Tailored Clothing sewing & Construction.
- Expertise in fitting with live models, advise risks with construction, fit and execution across all categories.
- Strong knowledge of the Technical Specification development process, from initial sample to final Production garment.
- Strong vendor management experience.
- Proven track record in developing long-term relationships and negotiating strategic agreements to ensure on-time, in-full deliveries that meet and exceed quality standards and margin goals.
- Strong understanding of the technical aspects of Apparel manufacturing.
- Strong influence, negotiating, and analytical skills as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- High degree of comfort in a start-up environment as applies to fabric and cut minimums and a determination to think outside of the box for solutions - anything is possible attitude.
- Exceptional attention to detail, follow-through and organizational skills are critical.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and functions in an entrepreneurial organization.
- Strong pattern making skills.
- Exceptional problem-solving skills - be proactive, collaborative, and a transparent team player in providing solutions.
- Must be a self-motivator/self-starter.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally multiple times a year.
- Proficient in Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
