The School of Optometry seeks an Optical Manager who ensures the accurate and efficient daily operation of 10 Optical, the optical dispensary of The Eye and Vision Center.
Management of the Optical Dispensary (10 Optical) of The Eye and Vision Center (80%)
• Provide appropriate patient education regarding lens and frame options
• Ensure the timely processing of daily patient orders
• Complete verification of insurance or vision care coverage for optical goods and services
• Oversee collection of patient payments, submission of accurate billing information and the posting of charges and payments in system
• Purchase and monitor shop inventory
• Identify equipment needs, including coordinating equipment repair and servicing
• Develop fee schedules and pricing for optical goods and services
• Maintain current information on vision care plans and other third party payers
• Assist the Associate Dean for Clinical Programs in the development, maintenance and monitoring of operational policies and procedures and key performance indicators
• Develop and implement marketing strategies
• Assist in the development and implementation of patient satisfaction surveys
Supervising Staff and Teaching Student Interns (20%)
• Supervise 10 Optical staff, including scheduling
• Supervise and coordinate student intern activities in 10 Optical
• Provide supervision/teaching in optical labs
• Contribute to sustaining and enhancing an inclusive working and learning environment
Requirements
Required:
• Current Massachusetts Dispensing Optician License
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in Optical management
• Supervisory experience
• Prior experience with third party payers and vision care plans
• Experience with electronic health records, inventory management systems and ordering systems
• Excellent customer service skills
• Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment
Preferred:
• 5 or more years’ experience in Optical management
• Teaching and/or training experience
• Bilingual (English/Spanish or English/Portuguese)
Physical Requirements:
• Typical office or administrative working conditions. Work is primarily sedentary in nature; there are no special physical demands.
• Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on telephone
