Overview
Essential Functions
- Read and interpret drawings, blueprints and specifications to determine layout requirements.
- Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments using processes such as gas tungsten arc welding, gas metal arc welding, flux-cored arc welding, plasma arc welding, shielded metal arc welding, oxy-acetylene welding, resistance welding and submerged arc welding.
- Operate manual or semi-automatic flame-cutting equipment.
- Operate brazing and soldering equipment.
- Operate metal shaping machines such as brakes, shears and other metal straightening or bending machines.
- Unload and position steel units so each piece can be hoisted as needed.
- Align and weld steel units in place.
- Examine structures and equipment for deterioration, defects or non-compliance with specifications.
- Repair or replace existing structural infrastructure as needed
- Regularly report to work, on time and prepared to perform all tasks as outlined in job description and / or assigned.
- Other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma or GED and 6 years’ experience in construction field work or construction trade training and 5 years’ experience in construction work. SMAW certified required.
LANGUAGE, MATH AND COMPUTER SKILLS
- Ability to effectively write and communicate through email and written letter correspondence.
- Ability to effectively communicate in client meetings and crew meetings.
- Basic computer skills needed for spreadsheet, word processing and email correspondence.
Qualifications
Safety
- Hold valid first aid and supervisor training certificates.
- Review and approve SWPs for assigned projects.
- Conduct and record regular safety inspections on equipment.
- Promptly and accurately complete investigations and reports on all near misses and all personal injury or property damage accidents.
- Set a personal example of safe behavior.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Ability to perform light manual labor for short periods outdoors and in inclement weather.
- Ability to climb ladders, operate a hand and foot controls, and use hand tools.
- Ability to sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and talk or hear.
- Ability to reach with hands and arms.
- Ability to stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 45 pounds unassisted, team lift up to 100 pounds.
- Ability to sit and stand as needed.
- Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
