Vice President, Small Business Strategy and Future State
Overview:
There are over 30 million Small Businesses in the US, growing by 1 million annually, which account for over 99% of all companies, and more than half of all jobs and sales revenue generated in the country. Small business owners are the hustlers who work beyond the typical 9-to-5 job and put it all on the line in order to pursue their passion. And while they may be called small, they are mighty navigating uncharted territory in the name of growing their business and serving as a pillar of their community.
As the lifeblood of our economy, it is our mission to help ensure that Small Businesses succeed by first focusing on their needs. The US Small Business Segment team is responsible for advancing the Mastercard small business efforts throughout the United States. We have incredibly audacious goals for growing our revenue and market share and have several big projects to help us meet that objective. One of those projects is a complete redesign of the value propositions of our Small Business cards in the US market, which will include partnerships such as Digital tools and Merchant Partner offers. A most critical piece of our work is the overarching strategy development of not only our current business but future state including beyond card and multi-rail.
Role description:
The VP of Small Business Strategy and Future State will continue to morph our overarching small business strategy and define and execute our Beyond Card/Multi-Rail/Digital and broader B2B approach to serve small business across various segments. These include issuers, acquirers, merchants, fintechs/paytechs, digital and other channel partners for Mastercard products and services to drive revenue, market share and long term growth
Define Small Business GTM distribution strategy across various segments, including issuers, acquirers, merchants, fintechs/paytechs, digital partners, governments, and other distribution partners for Mastercard Small Business products and services to drive revenue, market share and long term growth
Capture small business needs by leveraging research, data insights, voice of the customer and monitoring market and economic conditions impacting this segment. Develop and maintain ongoing assessment of a competitive landscape to inform sales strategy and future product roadmap.
Collaborate across product teams in Global, Cybersecurity, Data and Services, Open Banking, Multi Rail solutions to enhance and drive a cohesive customer centric small business strategy.
Help drive coordination of business and scalable sales activities across Mastercard, helping ensure transparency, communication, and alignment.
Lead a cross functional team across NAM to ensure a focused proactive vs. reactive inclusion of small business in everything that is done.
Stay aligned with Marketing, Sales/account management teams to drive and integrate the Small Business narrative with external partners, build on our brand in the SMB space and drive growth
Serve as a small business SME and provide thought leadership internally and externally to drive opportunities.
Build strong relationships across the Mastercard organization at executive and functional levels for all small business focused efforts
Identify market opportunities for small business product development for Mastercard through B2C or B2B2C model
Leverage analytics to identify product enhancement opportunities across various product lines.
Ensure a consistent narrative that drives a needs-based customer centric approach to how Mastercard develops solutions for our partners to enable their small business focus
Role requirements:
A history of success in building and launching market strategy across a variety of customer segments, with a focus on SMB in particular
Understanding of the payments landscape and ecosystem (Issuing, Acquiring, Payfacs etc.), (NAM preferred) and/or the Small Business space
Past success in scaling solution penetration and revenue through the development and execution of a go to market strategy
Role requires agility and a sense of urgency as well as strategic, results-driven, innovative and long-term thinking
Ability to forge strong relationships across executive and functional levels
Demonstrated leadership and influencing capabilities to drive alignment across a matrixed organization and teams
Collaboration and interpersonal communication skills.
Responsibility for identifying new players in the marketplace like fintechs, platform providers, data integrators who are participating in the small business value chain and ecosystem to understand their role, capabilities and impact to our business model.
Ensure a consistent narrative that drives a needs-based customer centric approach to how Mastercard develops solutions for our partners to enable their small business focus
Accountability for analyzing data, understanding the current and future state of small business, identifying opportunities to improve revenues, reduce costs and enhance our go-to-market strategy and brand and share position

NYC Salary Range: $243,800 - $377,200
Westchester County Salary Range: $212,000 - $328,000
