Position Summary
Mattern Construction Inc is seeking a detail-oriented and organized individual to join our finance team as an Accounting Assistant. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in supporting the day-to-day financial operations of our organization. Work Functions & Responsibilities:
Record Keeping:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records using accounting software.
- Record and classify financial transactions, ensuring adherence to established accounting principles.
Accounts Receivable:
- Coordinate with project managers to prepare timely and accurate invoices.
- Record customer payments.
- Collections when necessary.
Monthly Reporting:
- Prepare sales tax returns.
- Assist in month end close process by preparing account reconciliations.
- Prepare monthly budget to actual reports by project for review with project managers
Project Support:
- Assist with setting up project budgets in the accounting software
Audit Support:
- Provide support during internal and external audits by preparing documentation and responding to auditor inquiries.
Ad Hoc Tasks:
- Assist the finance team with various ad hoc projects and tasks as needed.
- Contribute to process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred. Equivalent related prior work experience also accepted.
Experience:
- Previous experience in accounting or finance roles is preferred.
- Familiarity with Foundation accounting software is preferred.
- Experience with CHRO and prevailing wage reporting.
Skills:
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other relevant software.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
Team Player:
- Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues across departments.
Integrity:
- Demonstrate a high level of integrity and confidentiality when handling financial information.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position 70% of the time.
- Occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
- Continuously operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, printer and telephone.
- Semi-frequent stair climbing.
