Job Title: Camp Counselor
Reports to: Site Coordinator; Youth Director
Time Frame of Employment: Spring Break, Summer Break, Fall Break, Winter Break
Salary Range: $13.00
POSITION SUMMARY
Provides active supervision for children in a group setting at a seasonal day camp. Offers a high-quality experience for children and parents relevant to the YMCA’s core values: Honesty, respect, responsibility, and care.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Providing active supervision for children in indoor and outdoor group settings
2. Participating in planning and implementing program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate, and consistent with YMCA values
3 . Adhering to program safety and cleanliness standards
4. Following YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergencies
5. Maintaining positive relations with youth, parents, and staff by modeling relationship-building skills
6. Understanding and agreeing with the YMCA philosophy, goals, and objectives
7. Following YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergencies
8. Ensuring the safety, health, and wellbeing of all YMCA youth
9. Relating to the children with respect and understanding
10. Demonstrating knowledge of child development and adjusting approaches based on individual or group needs
11. Informing the Youth Director of facility, staff, and program participant concerns
12. Maintaining a cohesive team through effective communication and constructive feedback
13. Demonstrating a cooperative attitude and the willingness to work in a team environment
14. Instructing children in a variety of activities with enthusiasm and creativity
15. Attending all staff meetings, trainings, and duties in a timely manner
16. Providing positive program development strategies
17. Remaining open-minded towards criticism, suggestion, and direction from other staff
18. Preparing and submitting lesson plans on time as requested by the director
19. Researching and developing new and creative activities to enhance the program
20. Completing other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Certifications: Child and Adult CPR/AED, Basic First Aid (provided at no cost if hired)
2. Provide a negative tuberculosis (TB) test
3. At least 15 ½ years of age
4. Graduated, GED, or currently attending high school
5. Must be fully vaccinated against Covid-19 and provide a copy of the vaccination card before employment
6. Successfully complete a background check
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Ability to lift equipment and participate in a range of activities in various outdoor/indoor settings
Ability to frequently sit, crouch, kneel, walk, and run
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Temporary
Pay: $13.00 per hour
