Job Description Time Type: Full time Role Details: Time Type: Full Time Pay Range: $30 - $35 / HR Job Location: 1350 IH 35 N, San Marcos, TX 78667 Job Summary: The Paralegal will assist the legal manager by providing a variety of research and other support services including document preparation and review; research, investigations and fact-checking; and trial preparation. Supervisory Responsibilities: None. Duties/Responsibilities: Provides pre-litigation assistance in a variety of claims, including gathering documents responsive to retention requests and communicating with claim representatives. Compiles and organizes documents responsive to discovery requests and provides to outside counsel. Updates case management software system. Reviews, redacts, and compiles documents in response to third-party record requests. Drafts releases, agreements, memoranda, letters, affidavits, declarations, and other legal documents. Proofreads and analyzes a variety of legal documents and suggests revisions. Reviews and analyzes existing contracts and provides related guidance to the legal manager, in-house counsel, and McCoy’s internal teams. Assists the legal manager, in-house counsel, outside counsel, and other McCoy’s employees with preparation for depositions, mediations, and trials. Maintains quality control checks on the legal department calendar and assists the legal manager and in-house counsel with calendar management including determining that all case deadlines, depositions, meetings, and other appointments are on the calendar. Assists the legal manager and in-house counsel with providing legal advice to or answering questions from management. Research issues impacting the organization by identifying applicable statutes and cases using online resources or other materials and prepares briefs or summaries. Attends team meetings and company training sessions as required. Performs other related duties as assigned. Required Skills/Abilities: Excellent time management skills, with proven ability to meet deadlines. Effective organizational, writing, and communication skills. Ability to function well in a high-paced and, at times, stressful environment. Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality while interacting with individuals of varied levels of education, experience, and backgrounds. Ability to read and analyze legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to top management. Ability to prepare drafts of legal documents and assist in-house counsel, legal manager, and other employees in review and analysis of existing contracts and provide related guidance to McCoy’s internal teams. Experience conducting and summarizing legal research. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software. Must have a current driver’s license and auto liability insurance. Occasional travel with overnight stays. Education and Experience: Associate degree in Paralegal Studies or related field required; Bachelor’s degree in Paralegal Studies or related field preferred. A Paralegal certificate is required. Prior or applicable experience in some or all of the following: general business and commercial law transactions; commercial litigation; employment law and litigation; real estate law; tort law (employment, auto liability, and commercial general liability defense); alternative dispute resolution (ADR) techniques is preferred. Experience in developing, implementing, and using legal department technology solutions including case management systems and SharePoint file organization. Ability to demonstrate a working knowledge of employment-related issues, risk and insurance management, and/or transactional experience, including applicable labor laws regarding EEO/AAP, HIPAA, FMLA, ADA, OSHA, DOT, FMCSR, etc. Physical Requirements: Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be available after hours, including weekends, to meet business needs. Must be able to occasionally lift up to 10 pounds at times.
