What are the responsibilities and job description for the Spirit Store Manager position at McMurry University?
This position will oversee the McMurry Spirit Store and the online store that provides War Hawk merchandise for purchase for students, faculty, staff, alumni and visitors.

- Execute and provide leadership and oversight for all spirit store operations.
- Prepare and implement detailed operating plans for general store operations and special events (athletics, graduation, etc.)
- Recruit, hire, train, and develop part-time staff member and student workers. Ensure effective performance management and maintain a culture of accountability. Plan, prepare, and manage team work schedules ensuring coverage. Promote a team environment.
- Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction through excellent service.
- Work with vendors and the marketing department to design and order merchandise. Receive and unload merchandise. Verify orders. Stock shelves and arrange displays. Monitor, maintain and count inventory.
- Adhere to current visual guidelines including proper merchandising, signage and store cleanliness.
- Operate cash register and store computer to accept payments adhering to safe cash handling procedures including balancing cash drawer and preparing bank deposit slips.
- Oversee accurate data collection needed to prepare monthly reports utilizing the Point of Sale system.
- Analyze store financial reports and determine how to positively impact future sales/expense opportunities and profitability which could include identifying items for special promotions.
- Establish, enhance, and maintain positive relationships with campus community. Seek out new ways to partner with campus regarding selling opportunities and merchandise selection.
- Manage the execution of store-specific projects, such as renovations and relocations. Modify plans to fit changing needs.
- Manage spirit store website. Work with campus web manager to perform website maintenance and fill orders. Maintain price accuracy and merchandise availability on website.
Other miscellaneous duties as assigned by the University Controller and/or the Vice President for Finance and Administration.
High School Diploma. Previous experience in a retail store overseeing sales staff and managing the daily operations of the store to include basic accounting, purchasing, and merchandising responsibilities. Effective verbal and written communication as well as demonstrated customer service experience. General computer skills. Must be able to multitask and pay attention to detail. Some college hours and previous experience working in a university retail environment preferred.
