What are the responsibilities and job description for the Food Service Worker / Room Service position at MD Anderson?
The Food Service Worker position on the Room Service team at MD Anderson Cancer Center in the Texas Medical Center will serve food to patients, visitors, and employees and help maintain a clean and safe environment for the customers and the food service team.
The schedule for this position will be 1:30pm-10:00pm, with rotating weekends and holidays required.
Much like the personalized cancer treatment our patients receive, our culinary and clinical nutrition teams design restaurant-style menus with fresh, cooked-to-order foods that are personalized to meet each cancer patient's dietary guidelines. Their choices can be delivered to their hospital rooms 365 days a year, from 6:30am to 9:30pm. Caregivers and guests of inpatients are also able to order quality meals with fresh ingredients designed by culinary experts. Room Service programs like ours that provide efficient, high quality, cooked-to-order culinary options have become essential to ensuring a better patient experience.
Hourly breakdown of salary range:
Minimum $15.00 - Midpoint $16.88 - Maximum $18.75

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES:
Food Preparation and Service:
- Perform simple food preparation by following established written recipes
- Provide excellent customer service to patients, visitors, and colleagues
Surface cleaning such as floors, drains, walls etc:
- Practice cleaning and sanitizing procedures
Equipment and small ware cleaning and sanitation:
- Practice cleaning and sanitizing procedures, including safe handling of chemicals and 3-compartment sink
- Properly stores all equipment, chemicals, and utensils
Trash and garbage disposal:
- Follow proper procedures to operate dish and pot washing machines.
- Follow proper procedures for disposal and trash compactor.
May be moved to new locations and/or shifts as operations dictate. Cross training may also involve shift changes.
Education:
Preferred: High school diploma or equivalent would be a plus.
Experience:
Preferred: At least six months of experience in hospital or commercial food service operation.
Licensure/Certification:
Must obtain a current Texas Food Handlers Certification within 30 days of entry into job.
