ENFORCEMENT SPECIALIST & INTERGOVERNMENTAL CASEWORKER
MECOSTA COUNTY FRIEND OF THE COURT OFFICE
The Mecosta County Friend of the Court has an immediate opening for a full-time Enforcement Specialist & Intergovernmental Caseworker. This position provides support in the enforcement of court orders and the issuance of income withholding orders. Additionally, the position serves as the Friend of the Court’s intergovernmental caseworker, facilitating communication and coordination on child support matters across different jurisdictions. Must be able to establish effective working relationships and use good judgment, initiative and resourcefulness when dealing with county employees, representatives of other governmental units, elected officials, and the public.
- Assist in the enforcement of court ordered child support obligations according to the Support Enforcement Act. Analyzes case data and screens cases for civil contempt proceedings including sending arrearage notices and/or scheduling and filing a motion to show cause.
- Regularly meets with clients, conducts meetings prior to show cause hearings, confers with both parents, attorneys, state agencies and others regarding enforcement and related procedural questions.
- Is prepared to appear in court as necessary to present case specifics and testify regarding the facts of the case. Attend show cause hearings before the court as necessary.
- Monitor assigned cases by producing and reviewing daily and monthly mandated reports to assess enforcement needs.
- Coordinate the establishment, modification, and enforcement of child support orders across state or international boundaries.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for intergovernmental child support cases. This includes facilitating communication and coordination between multiple jurisdictions by interpreting and applying relevant laws and regulations across different jurisdictions.
This position may entail performing any combination of the aforementioned tasks. Please note that the listed examples do not encompass all potential responsibilities.
Assists and substitutes for other office staff as needed.
Education: High school diploma required. Associate degree or equivalent coursework in human services. Prefer some advanced coursework in human services areas.
Experience: Five (5) years of experience in the legal system; preference given to experience with domestic relations issues and the Friend of the Court.
