Duties and Responsibilities
Provide paralegal support to the Civil Division of the Department of Justice:
- Manage frequent contact with the COR, attorneys, branch directors, and other Civil Division personnel;
- Brief attorneys on how to use CIMS and its associated modules and assist them with related functions;
- Interview attorneys at multiple building locations and gather and maintain current, consistent and complete case information and make the necessary updates to the application/database;
- Complete a minimum of 10 interviews/week and complete follow-up actions within 5 business days of interviews
- Prepare and process Civil Division forms that dispose a stage or close a case;
- Analyze computer-generated reports for omissions, inconsistencies, and anomalies in the data;
- Recommend reports which identify omissions, inconsistencies and anomalies in data;
- Research and analyze case documents and tools such as Lexis to resolve database problems or update data;
- Enter data into the application/database;
- Maintain weekly work reports; and
- Provide user support for CIMS and its associated modules, case tracking, and disposition and closure procedures, includes writing procedures and providing user training (one-on-one or group sessions).
Qualifications
- B.S. or a B.A. degree
- Paralegal Certificate (equivalent level of legal training and experience may be accepted by the government as a substitute for a paralegal certificate)
- Research and analytical experience in a legal environment
- Experience with courts and legal matters/cases from inception through trial, appeal, and/or resolution/disposition
- Excellent written and effective oral communication skills
- Proven track record of consistent and accurate application of rules and procedures
- Flexibility to work effectively on multiple projects simultaneously
- Able to demonstrate history of professional maturity, independence and self-control in responding to events and circumstances
- Ability to think innovatively and proactively
- Strong research and analytical skills
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to details and follow-up actions
- Ability to identify problem areas and recommend corrective actions to improve processes and procedures
- Willingness to take initiative to complete assignments beyond the minimal requirements
- Strong working knowledge of MS Word and MS Excel
- Outstanding interpersonal skills demonstrating ability to work and interact with all levels of government personnel, colleagues, and other contractor personnel

If required, employees must be able to operate a motor vehicle which may require sitting for prolonged periods of time to visit other company sites. Must have hearing and speech to communicate in person, before groups and over the telephone. Standing in work areas and walking between work areas may be required. This position may require an employee to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb or balance, reach, push, and pull. The employee may also be required to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
