Job SummaryUnder the general direction of the Library Director or designee, performs a variety of library tasks requiring a working knowledge of library procedures.
Duties may include serving the public as they borrow materials from the library collection, as they return materials, and answering questions from the public about library policies and procedures.
Other duties will include the preparation of materials for addition to the library collections or removal from the collections.
Schedule : 20-25 hours / week
Essential Job Functions :
An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following functions.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.
Assists patrons as they borrow or return library materials.Registers patrons for library cards and assist patrons as they complete any other forms required for library services.
Performs those tasks necessary to add or delete library records from the shared automation system operated by The Library Network.
Compiles data and completes reports using both manual and computerized spreadsheets and databases at the direction of the Library Director or designee.
Will shelve library materials, inventory library collections as required, or as assigned by the Library Director or designee.
May be assigned to provide support in either branch of the Dearborn Heights City Library as the Library Director sees the need.
Processes incoming materials for collection.Other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Minimum Qualifications :

Must possess a high school diploma or GED.Must have a valid Michigan Drivers License and be able to demonstrate that there are no prohibitions that prevent the use of that license to drive between the two branches of the Dearborn Heights City Library.
Work experience in a library with knowledge of modern library service techniques, practices and principles preferred.Ability to serve library patrons efficiently and effectively.
Ability to operate computers, their operating systems, especially the shared automation system provided by The Library Network for management of the library collection.
Must possess intermediate word processing, database and spreadsheet software skills.Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with those contacted in the course of work, including patrons and colleagues.
Ability to communicate accurately, clearly and concisely in written, verbal and electronic formats.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to work in an environmentally controlled setting.
Walking surfaces are well lit, tiled and / or carpeted.
This is a position that places a low physical demand on an individual, requiring a limited range of motion.
The use of both fine and gross muscles of the body is governed by the essential tasks, and may be supported by reasonable accommodations.
Work is performed in the optimal working envelope of neck to navel and within arms reach.
The use of a ladder, or steps, to reach shelving outside the work envelope is common.
The employee is required to reach from approximately floor level to six feet.
The employee is regularly required to lift objects of / - 5 pounds, and occasionally lifts objects of 10 pounds.
The employee must be able to manually write and work with a keyboard.
The ability to use a phone system is essential to this position.
Vision or assisted vision is required.
Limited hearing is acceptable.
Verbal communication is essential.
Individuals with physical impairments can be accommodated to perform most of the essential tasks of this position.
Being able to drive a vehicle is essential to move between the two library branches.
The use of mobility assistant devices such as wheelchairs, walkers, etc., is not a hindrance to this position.
