The Certified Medical Interpreter serves as a liaison between providers, care team members and patients and their families by providing oral interpretation services. The Certified Medical Interpreter fosters accurate and complete communication among those involved in medical encounters in order to facilitate effective communication and understanding. The Certified Medical Interpreter may also be called upon to act as a cultural broker, to build bridges of understanding between different cultures.All medical interpreters must be certified by either National Board for Certified Medical Interpreters or Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters

National Board for Certified Medical Interpreters (NBCMI) or Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters (CCHI)
