POSITION SUMMARY:
Functions under the direction of the Department Director and Chief Clinical Officer. Performs safe, effective clinical care utilizing the nursing process in the assigned department. Seeks to improve skills in patient assessment, response, and documentation. Develops administrative skills aimed at ensuring safe patient care, effective communication, and activities which enhance unit efficiency. Seeks guidance from the supervisor and peers as needed. Supports and contributes to the Quality Assurance Program. Demonstrates an interest in the continuing education process, identifying own professional needs, and assisting with education of peers and other staff members. Works as a charge nurse or a patient care nurse when assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Graduate of an approved school of professional nursing.
- Currently licensed by the Texas Board of Nursing as a registered nurse.
- Maintains certifications for CPR, ACLS, PALS or ENPC and TNCC
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Aware of current standards of nursing practice.
- Ability to communicate verbally person to person, ability to write legibly.
- Ability to satisfactorily complete a nursing skills checklist.
- Ability to coordinate and manage activities of other health care providers in an acute care setting.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to walk quickly and stand for long periods of time.
- Ability to lift moderately heavy persons/objects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Consistently demonstrates behavior which reflects that working as a team is more important than self-interest.

3. Demonstrates through the assessment an understanding of the elements most significant to the clinical care of the patient.
4. Assesses patient and completes the RN admission data base within 24 hours of the patient’s admission.
5. When functioning as a patient care nurse complete RN assessment if staffing permits.
6. Makes patient care rounds during each shift and following any significant change in a patient’s condition, to identify problems and make adjustments to the plan of care.
7. Communicates assessment findings and other appropriate clinical information to other health care professionals involved in patient’s care.
8. Ensures that all nursing interventions and patient responses are communicated to responsible practitioners as indicated and that all required components of the nursing process are documented in accordance with standards of practice.
9. Maintains effective utilization of manpower, equipment, and supplies.
10. The RN must be able to demonstrate competency in all procedures within scope of practice, as appropriate to the ages of the patients served and must be able to obtain and interpret information in terms of the patient’s needs.
11. Performs nursing care in accordance with policy and procedure.
12. Demonstrates knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on the age of the patient and their clinical condition.
13.Communicates drug information to patient when appropriate and documents.
14. Monitors the hospital experience from the perspective of the individual patient and functions as a patient advocate.
15.Effectively communicates with patients, families, and members of the health care team.
16.Interacts professionally with the patient / family and involve the patient / family in the formation of an individual plan of care, including the identification and addressing of psychosocial needs of both the family and the patient. Revising and evaluating the plan of care daily for effectiveness as indicated by the patient’s response to treatment. (Treats the patient and their family with respect and dignity while maintaining confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.)
17.Serves as role model and resource to other nursing staff seeking solutions to problems involving patients and staff.
18. Accepts temporary reassignment to another area or work function for which the employee has the necessary skills and training when necessary.
19.Assures that all tasks performed are in compliance with related state and federal guidelines, rules and regulations.
20.Is flexible and able to fill multiple roles that are fitting with his/her experience, training and skills.
21.Answers the patient call bell system in a prompt manner and speaks in a quiet, calm, courteous voice.
22.Documents in patient record appropriately.
23.Reviews patient care plans daily and charts accordingly.
24.Performs interventions as plan of care deems necessary.
25.Willingly /readily accepts delegated tasks within scope of practice.
26.Maintains composure under stress and utilizes resources to cope with stressful situations.
27.Assists with staffing when deemed necessary.
28. Actively participates in continuous quality improvement activities.
29. Performance of other duties, as assigned.
30. Abides by Hospital policies and procedures as set forth in the Employee Handbook.
31. Assures all tasks performed are in compliance with related State and Federal guidelines, rules
and regulations.
Salary : $85,300 - $104,000
