The Education Coordinator is a Registered Nurse who is responsible for developing, organizing and implementing the strategic plan and programs for the continuing education of clinical staff. This includes new employee orientation, standardizing nursing practices and patient care all in compliance with applicable regulations as well as overall nursing practices and standards. This role will support the goal of growing key partnerships as well as drive the organization towards implementation of an online education portal and accreditation for Continuing Education Units.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Oversee the nursing students in partnership the manager
Ensure clinical competence is maintained through instruction and oversight of the clinicians in direct patient care in the scrubbing and circulator roles.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Performs as a role model for guest relations to ensure that the staff provides courteous, respectful, and personalized patient service.
Directs and monitors all aspects of patient care by assuring staff adheres to established policies, procedures and standards of care; assures that nursing practices are standardized throughout the center.
Provide, direct and indirect patient care using the nursing process to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient requirements as directed by the physician; use medical equipment in accordance with standards; demonstrate continued competence in all facets of ambulatory surgery.
Works with appropriate managers to coordinate and monitor the Quality Improvement process and activities including the areas of Safety, Infection Control, Patient Education, Documentation, Aseptic Control, Patient and Physician Satisfaction, Risk Management, employee health, and Compliance to OSHA Standards; ensures that the staff is tracking data in accordance with established indicators.
Complies and supports all personnel policies; establishes effective work environment; provides leadership and direction to staff
Identifies needs and recommends programs for staff development and education; provides comprehensive orientation programs for all new employees; evaluates orientation and in-service programs; identifies and recommends present and future needs.
Respects and complies with decisions made by the CEO and CNO; communicates with others in a direct, respectful, and effective manner; is flexible, approachable, and has good rapport with medical and nursing staff.
Provide department education through in service programs including new equipment and new patient care procedures.
Promote cost effective behavior in staff through in-service and education.
Responsible for yearly competencies for staff.
Works with OR and Peri-Op Managers to determine educational needs.
Requirements
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software with the ability to learn new or updated software.
Education and Experience
Graduate of accredited school of nursing
Current Virginia RN license
At least two years of experience in Ambulatory Surgery including the pre/post-op and recovery area[TJ1] and BLS, ACLS Certification required
Education experience and CNOR Certification preferred
