Overview
Proofreads and edits all copy, packaging, company publications, fliers, other printed materials, and many digital assets. Has direct responsibility to help establish and maintain company “style” and design and copy standards. May also write copy as needed.
Responsibilities
- Primarily responsible for spelling, grammatical accuracy, and consistency on printed and electronic materials produced for the company.
- Proofreads and edits magazine, catalogs, brochures, pamphlets, adverting copy, promotional materials, fliers, some digital content, and other printed materials.
- May also write the above items.
- Coordinates with and suggests improvements to Designers/Art Director to help create compelling layouts.
- Completes copy and proofreading assignments as directed.
- Responsible for maintaining consistency of brand and company style across product lines.
- Works closely with Marketing personnel to complete projects.
- Basic understanding of principles of marketing and customer response.
- May be responsible for creation, accuracy, and maintenance of product stories for one or more product categories.
- Contributes ideas for new packaging, new products, and new business opportunities.
Qualifications
- Four-year degree in English, Creative Writing, Communication, or equivalent.
- One to four years of experience in a fast-paced creative environment.
- Strong familiarity with English grammar, syntax, and other linguistic rules as defined in commonly used style guides.
- Ability to accurately edit copy, identify errors, and mark corrections in copy according to correct English grammar.
- Ability to type, use a mouse, and other necessary computer equipment.
- Clear understanding of the creative process.
- Detailed work and organizational skills.
- Ability to work under stress, meet deadlines, and manage several projects at once.
- Ability to analyze problems and create solutions.
- Ability to work professionally on his/her own and with teams.
- Written and verbal communication skills.
- Visually read documents, computer screens, training materials, etc.
- Ability to operate word processing and layout software (including but not limited to: Word, Adobe Suite, and Acrobat).
- Basic understanding of design, print, paper, and internet specifications.
- Ability to perform the essential duties and responsibilities with efficiency and accuracy.
