Purpose: To ensure an exceptional visitor experience at Mississippi River Parks by maintaining

a welcoming, well-tended, clean, safe, and fun environment. Supervise, lead and mentor all Field Operations Park Rangers by scheduling staff, delegating assignments and managing workflow.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and produce schedules at least two weeks in advance for River Parks Ranger staff that provides adequate coverage during all hours of operations and special events.
  • Oversee shift and ensure that all assigned tasks are completed properly.
  • Ensure reporting of hours worked for River Parks Ranger staff is timely and accurately reported for payroll purposes.
  • Provide regular reporting of detailed notes of observations, summary of work, repair needs, issues, etc. to supervisor/management.
  • Complete and compile routine checklist reports of parks, spaces and buildings to document park condition, repair needs, and work completed to supervisor.
  • Act as support for supervisor and a resource for other Rangers.
  • Consult with Supervisor of Field Operations when appropriate and be available in his/her absence.
  • Provide role model for how Rangers are to perform successfully in role.
  • Keep the parks neat, well-tended, and litter-free.
  • Complete assigned activities each shift.
  • Create a welcoming environment by greeting all visitors in a warm, friendly manner and inviting them to return.
  • Perform light maintenance on park features and structures, and report maintenance issues to management.
  • Perform light landscaping, including weed-eating, watering and mulching.
  • Support event preparation, set-up, and tear-down as needed.
  • Be knowledgeable about river parks features, events, and new developments to share with visitors.
  • Anticipate trouble before it begins and seek assistance from Memphis Police Department and other Partnership staff when needed.
  • Discourage people who create a disruptive environment for others or for the parks.
  • Discourage behavior that damages park grounds, structures or equipment.
  • Represent Memphis River Parks with clean, well-groomed appearance wearing appropriate uniform daily.

Qualifications:

  • Be a do-whatever-it-takes-to-get-the-job-done type person.
  • Willing to conduct a full range of activities, from picking up litter and watering plants to greeting guests
  • Be comfortable in dealing with people across all walks of life
  • Have a propensity to see the product through the eyes of visitors in order to improve park operations continuously
  • Possess digital skills required to make online reports
  • Be able to work as a positive member of a team
  • Be a self-starter, self-manager and make good use of time
  • Possess a valid Driver’s License and be able to drive truck and golf cart and ride a bike
  • Ability to travel from site to site, walk, bend, stoop, reach, climb stairs, lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Believe in the mission of the organization and the value of making the riverfront our own local “Disneyland”
  • Successful completion of pre-employment drug screening
  • Able to work flexible work schedule including nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Willing to work outdoors in inclement weather and year-round

Required:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalency
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Must Pass Drug Screening
  • Authorized to work in the U.S.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $17.88 - $20.00 per hour
