What are the responsibilities and job description for the Development Manager position at Mental Health America of Los Angeles?

Development Manager

Mental Health America of Los Angeles (MHALA) has been a pioneer in mental health services, advocacy, innovation, and training for nearly a century. As one of the most comprehensive social service agencies in LA County, MHALA provides integrated mental health, physical health, wellness, employment, housing, education, and outreach services, with special programs for transition age youth and veterans.

MHALA works to ensure that its employees are just as cared for as its members. Communication, collaboration, transparency, and a healthy work-life balance are core components of the agency culture. Employees are encouraged to engage in self-care and can enjoy a 35-hour workweek.

MHALA fosters diversity at all levels of the organization. The agency promotes a team-oriented culture that offers opportunities for growth. We are proud to offer a competitive salary and full benefits package, including an employee assistance program, and generous paid time off.

MHALA is now seeking a Development Manager who will be a core member of the development team and help build upon the success of this relatively new function launched five years ago. While the agency is based in the Long Beach, CA area, it offers on-site flexibility.

The Position:

The development manager serves as the lynchpin in key areas of development operations, including collaborating and supporting the Chief Development Officer on annual fund direct mail appeals and digital fundraising, event management, database administration and research, donor relations and stewardship communications, and reconciliation of the department’s budget with the Finance department.

This position enables a multi-talented, highly organized, and detailed-oriented individual to thrive as they demonstrate their advanced proficiency in Raiser’s Edge to accurately capture donor activities and contributions, interface with sponsors and vendors and manage event details, and contribute to the writing, design, and administrative details of fundraising campaigns, working side by side with MHALA’s communication and social media team and other internal and external partners.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a creative and flexible problem solver and thrives in a fast-paced environment balancing multiple projects concurrently. Passionate about MHALA’s mission and development operations and communications, this professional not only maintains but improves upon existing processes.

Customer-service oriented, self-directed, and comfortable learning and leveraging technology in their work, this candidate gains great satisfaction in demonstrating excellence in both the everyday routine and creative aspects of this role.

Opportunity

This is a rare opportunity to be a key contributor to addressing California’s, and one of the nation’s most pressing issues, mental health, in one of the most respected, fast growing, and innovative nonprofit organizations today. This opportunity enables the right candidate future growth and the latitude to demonstrate their full capacity, strengths, and interests.
