CLINICAL DIETITIAN
Summary of Primary Function/General Purpose of Position
Performs as a member of the interdisciplinary team responsible for the design, coordination and implementation of optimal nutritional care and education of patients/clients in accordance with established standards of care.
Essential Job Functions
Utilizes Nutrition Care Process as recommended by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and in accordance with Mercy Health’s Standards of Care guidelines for Screening and Assessment. Adheres to practice standards established by local, state and national agencies.
Develops curriculum for nutrition classes and teaches group classes as required by the clinical area of care. Provides nutrition counseling and/or education to patients and/or caregivers based on assessment of individual learning needs. Conducts inservices for other healthcare professionals on nutrition subjects relevant to patient care, and develops and provides education to facility and in the community to promote food and nutrition programs.
Provides nutrition expertise to healthcare professionals in establishing standards of patient care by participating in clinical and interdisciplinary rounds, meetings, task forces and projects.
Provides supervised learning experiences for dietetic interns when appropriate.
Coordinates functions and activities of diet office, collaborates & communicates with Food & Nutrition supervisor and food service staff.
Provides outpatient Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) services.
Participates in performance improvement programs related to patient care and service participates in research protocols and development of clinical pathways in assigned area(s) of responsibility, and in unit, department or facility committees as assigned.
Maintains high level of competency and professional development related to nutrition trends, research, policy, certifications, and standards of practice. Participates in development of performance objectives with emphasis on an area of specialization as appropriate.

Patient Population
Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit.
Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development of the life span and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age, specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in departmental policies and procedures.

Required Minimum Education: 4 year/Bachelors Degree
Specialty/Major: Dietitics
Licensure/Certification Required: Licensed Dietitian with the State of Ohio. Registered Dietitian with the Commission on Registration from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND).
Licensure/Certification Preferred: Carries specialty certification in Renal Nutrition, Oncology Nutrition, Geriatric Nutrition, or is a Certified Diabetic Educator (CDE) or Certified Nutrition Support Clinician (CNSC)
Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: Excellent interpersonal, customer service, verbal and written communication skills.
