The Laboratory Support Technician (LST II) is part of the provider care team acting in a support capacity for reports, data and scheduling functions of the laboratory. This position is responsible for accurate, timely and effective provision of laboratory support mechanisms. The LST II will be required to exhibit excellent customer service skills in line with the Mercy Signature Service Standards with all customer interactions. The LST II is responsible for the skillful acquisition of all required types of specimens, As required, for laboratory testing utilizing safe, accurate, effective, professional methodologies while observing HIPAA confidentiality requirements and lab policies.
1 Financial Performance
Remains a steward of resources in regards to inventory, time management, and meeting productivity standards.
2 Operational Effectiveness
Demonstrates effective computer skills for both electronic communication and data management. Organizes, prioritizes and completes work to meet defined turnaround times and
expectations. Assesses issues that arise and communicates to appropriate stakeholders for resolution as required.
Participates in effective inventory control as needed.
Uses skills in accordance with departmental and regulatory standard for effective and timely, acquisition, labeling and transfer of all appropriate laboratory specimens as required.
Utilizes, accurate, effective, professional methodologies while observing HIPAA confidentiality requirements and lab policies.
Utilizes timely and effective communication skills in line with the Mercy Service Standards to address the needs of all customer groups in support of patient service excellence.
Demonstrates responsibility for timely, effective and accurate processing and reporting of post-analytical laboratory results.
3 Workplace Excellence
Complies with departmental operational policys to meet staffing plan and department needs.
Communicates professionally and effectively. Communicates in all fashions using a well modulated voice (face to face and on the phone), tone (e-mail) in a concise, positive and respectful manner.
Displays a spirit of cooperation and concern for all patients, fellow staff members, and providers.
Demonstrates initiative to assist the laboratory and supportive areas where needed. Participates in continuing education and staff developmental activities.
4 Quality
Demonstrates and documents competency in areas of assigned responsibility according to CMS guidelines and Mercy requirements. Under the direction of lab leadership, reviews and reports laboratory tests as required.
Communicates and documents critical information according to the established policies and procedures.
Recognize, report, and engages in opportunities for process improvement. Complies with all safety regulations and requirements. (i.e. chemical hygiene plan, exposure control plan, blood borne pathogens).
5 Continuing Education
8 units CE annually
Completes mandatory courses on time
Performs duties pertaining to the handling and disposition of site-generated hazardous waste as part of daily job activities.
Comply with all Federal, State, and Local authorities having jurisdiction.
Qualifications:

Certification/Registration: CPR is required before seeing patients independently.

written examination, management observation, etc., to be
eligible for advancement to the next higher job description.
QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED
Experience: 6 months phlebotomy or clinical laboratory experience preferred
