Performs the manual and technical tasks involved with the proper receiving, storage, preparation, distribution, packaging, labeling and delivery of medications and maintains associated recordkeeping. Works under the direction of a Registered Pharmacist.
- Prepares medications for dispensing, including appropriate product selection, labeling and repackaging/compounding.
- Prepares IV admixtures, including chemotherapy, using aseptic technique. Maintains par levels of premixes. Performs IV room and hood cleaning. Maintains sterile technique competencies.
- Delivers medications and returns discontinued medications from nursing units. Restocks and maintains Pyxis medications; notes and corrects discrepancies and recovers drawers as necessary. Performs monthly audits of Pyxis stations as assigned. Ensures that Pyxis stations are organized, properly labeled and clean and that inventories and par levels are adjusted as needed and outdated medications are removed.
- Receives medications and supplies, places in stock in pharmacy. Performs monthly audits of pharmacy medication storage areas as assigned.
- Manages incoming telephone calls to ensure proper action and triage.
- Communicates with all staff in a positive manner to help organize, plan, and coordinate patient care.
- Restocks medication storage locations, carts and boxes. (e.g., emergency boxes, EMT bags, crash carts, RSI boxes).
- Insures that pharmaceuticals/supplies are charged and credited timely/appropriately. Scans records as appropriate; assists with record retention requirements.
- Monitors temperatures of medication refrigerators. Checks and removes outdated medications. Assists in audits of medication use.
Required Minimum Education: High School Diploma or GED
Required Licensure: Certified Pharmacy Technician (Board and State)
