Overview:
The Charge Nurse is responsible for providing the unit leadership, and ensuring the continuity and quality of care for all three shifts. This responsibility includes the appropriate utilization of Mercy Medical Center resources to optimize patient care. Assesses, implements, and evaluates patient care on own patients as reflected by RN job description, as well as those patients under care of other staff members. Assures that all care meets legal, ethical, and professional standards. The Charge Nurse is sensitive to the needs of patients, families, and fellow co-workers; plans and provides professional nursing care for patients in accordance with age specific needs; plan and provide professional nursing care for patients in accordance with any identified cultural diversity needs (such as religions, lifestyles, beliefs, physical capabilities, and cultures); plan and provide professional nursing care for patients by assuring appropriate and effective pain management; assess, report, and assist any patients that present with evidence of abuse and/or neglect; identifies problems and proposes solutions in own area. Communicates effectively with all members of the health team. Participates in activities that contribute to the efficient operation of the unit. Assures that the philosophy, mission, goals, objectives, policies and procedures of the department, health center and Sisters of Mercy are implemented. Coworkers are expected to abide by Mercy Medical Center safety and infection control policies to maintain a safe environment for patients and co-workers. Supervises: Team Leaders, RNs, LPNs, CNAs, Orderlies NOTE: Orientation and training is age specific. Competent to provide nursing services to the age of the specific population of assigned areas. See Age Appropriate Care for Neonate, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult and Geriatric Patients policy. Current CPR Certification is a required element to maintain the job position. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.
Qualifications:
- Education: Graduation from an approved school of nursing.
- Licensure: Current Licensure by the Arkansas State Board of Nursing.
- Experience: Minimum 2 years RN experience in an acute care setting.
- Certifications: CPR (AHA BLS for Healthcare Provider)
- Other: Competent to provide nursing care to age specific patient populations of assigned area. To ensure patient safety, it is mandatory that all licensed personnel who provide direct patient care must pass a medication and math competency test before assuming medication administration responsibilities. This exam will cover knowledge of the actions and side effects of commonly used drugs along with math regarding correct dosages and IV problems. The passing grade on this exam is 90% and it may be repeated one time. Failure to pass the retake may result in termination of employment.
