Overview:
Under the supervision of Food Services management, responsible within Food and Nutrition Services to assist in the coordination of department development as well as with planning, organizing, staffing and supporting the direction of operations and personnel in the kitchen, cafeteria, catering, Patient Call Center and Patient Room Service. In collaboration with all leadership, a combination of core and secondary responsibilities are achieved in order to provide continuous excellent service to Mercy patients, guests and co-workers. Supervisor performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values and Mercy Service Standards.
Responsible for the production of hot food for patient meals, café, and catering events. Adjustments to production should include the capability of converting recipes and cooking skills during preparation to produce quality product.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Certifications:
- Jefferson: Food Handlers within 90 days of hire.
- St. Louis/South: Serve Safe Manager within 90 days of hire.
- Springfield: Serve Safe Manager within 90 days of hire.
- Washington: Serve Safe Manager within 90 days of hire.
- Other:
- The physical demands described here are the representative of the minimums that must be met by an employee to perform all essential functions of the job.

- Additional Job Responsibilites
- Demonstrates proficiency in preparing food from standard recipes for regular and modified diets. Responsible to train cooks to be competent in this area as well.
- Assists with recipe development, assess appearance, taste and texture of foods and makes appropriate corrections. Responsible for outcome of quality meals.
- Responsible for equipment maintenance and the planning for future construction of kitchen equipment upgrades.
- Controls food waste and identifies opportunities for improvement of food/labor costs.
- Preferred Education: Associates Degree or above.
- Preferred Experience: 2 years experience in food service, acute care, or hospitality setting.
- Preferred Certifications:
- Washington: Certified Dietary Manager (CDM)
