Essential duties and Responsibilities
- Demonstrates broad knowledge of the rules and regulations governing hospice. Actively participates in the quality improvement process to evaluate nursing program progress and assists nurses in identifying areas of needed improvement. Assists in the preparation for accreditation and certification visits related to home health.
- Has familiarity with components of a Magnet environment and is supportive of all initiatives within the structure.
- Strong problem-solving abilities in complex situations.
- Ability to work within the budget and productivity targets to meet organizational objectives.
- Assures there are organized plans in place for selection of staff, evaluation of staff, orientation of new staff, continued education and development of staff, competency evaluation of staff, appropriate scheduling of staff based on patient acuity.
- A visible nursing leader with outstanding relationship building skills.
- A demonstrated record of success in identifying, recruiting and retaining strong clinicians.
- Must possess strong physician relationship skills.
- Patient focused with a strong commitment to delivering the highest levels of quality, safety, and customer service. Is accountable for achievement of patient satisfaction (PressGaney and HCAHPS) action plans to achieve targets for their areas of responsibility.

- Supports the professional nurse continuum and nursing clinical ladder for RNs (CARE)
Education and Experience
Graduate of an accredited nursing program. Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required.
Two years’ experience in hospice required.
Two years’ supervisory experience required, preferably in a hospice or palliative care setting.
Certifications/Licensure
Licensed as an RN in state of practice
Approved CPR certification required within 90 days
Hospice and Palliative Care certification preferred.
Maintain a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation with proof of vehicle insurance when requested. Have and maintain an acceptable driving record per Mercy’s HR-01 Fleet Safety policy.
