Ensures pharmacist verification or all work performed prior to dispensing or distribution. Trains new employees and other trainees in daily operations of their responsibility.Your best life. What you will do:
- Prepares unit dose medications by repackaging following established departmental procedures.
- Packages and labels medications where appropriate.
- Demonstrates proficiency in the use of the pharmacy outpatient computer system, including but not limited to; prescription preparation, third party billing and reversal of claims.
- Supports maintaining inventory of drugs and supplies. Maintains records as requested. Appropriately receives and documents shipments of pharmaceuticals and supplies, unpacks, prices and properly places them into inventory as requested.
- Maintains pharmacy areas in a clean and orderly manner.
- Effectively utilizes enterprise phone system including but not limited to: call transfer, parking, paging and message taking.
- Completely and efficiently fills and delivers medications, orders and supplies to and from patient care units and ancillary departments.
- Communicates effectively and respectfully with patients, the public, hospital personnel and fellow employees.
- Maintains high level of accuracy with sterile compounding.
- Follows all policies and procedures related to sterile compounding.
- Prepares hazardous drug compounding according to policy and/or procedure.
- Maintains competency with pharmacy equipment and software and follows policy and/or procedure associated with use.
- Is competent with the utilizing the automated dispensing system (Pyxis). Utilizes the system according to department expectations.
- Completely and efficiently fills and delivers medications, orders and supplies to and from patient care units and ancillary departments.
- Participates in department code cart processing and management.
- Completes monthly inspections of area of responsibility on time.
- Completes monthly cleanings and tasks as assigned.
- Completes and documents daily tasks in pharmacy task documentation system (Simplifi 797).
- Maintains proficiency in computer skills for area of responsibility.
- Enters on-line charges for patient-care services; may also be assigned accountability for revenue reconciliation and for charge-error correction as specified by departmental process supporting hospital Revenue Policy.
- Participates in training of new staff, students and other department visitors.
What we are looking for:
- Must have a High School diploma or GED.
- Must have basic math and typing skills.
- Must have successfully attained a registration with the Iowa Board of Pharmacy as a Certified Pharmacy Technician.
- Previous experience in pharmacy setting helpful, but not required.
- Medical and/or science background helpful, but not required.
