GIS Manager

Overview
The GIS Manager is a highly responsible management position that supports our geospatially-enabled analytical efforts to provide quality results for our customer. The incumbent will oversee the collection and quality of our map data, ensuring that all aspects of production are of the highest accuracy and quality. Candidates will have strong competencies and demonstrated experience developing and implementing geospatially enabled software and services used to conduct analyses and deliver client facing geospatial products.

The GIS Manager recommends, collaborates, and implements changes to internal processes by working with stakeholders to improve the delivery of GIS and related content to our internal and external audiences. Provides guidance to management regarding specific data and products we use to provide deliverables.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serves as workload and traffic manager for the GIS team in order to juggle and prioritize a large volume of projects.
  • Provides guidance and direction where needed and manages expectations with stakeholders in high pressure situations.
  • Assigns jobs to GIS Technician professionals, provides and/or delegates back-up assistance as needed.
  • Maintains project records using proprietary workload management system.
  • Intervenes when concerns or feedback is raised and addresses them with both management and the GIS professional ensuring an optimal resolution for all parties.
  • Responsible for supporting team development, managing direct report's performance, and ensuring the team is engaged.
  • Develops and manages the analysis, research, design, and implementation of all mapping tools, templates, standards, and software.
  • Utilizes ESRI desktop and online products, modeling, and complex geospatial workflows to create highly customized survey maps for our customers.
  • Informs and educates GIS personnel about new capabilities, techniques, templates, and products are being properly and consistently applied across all regions.
  • Ensures the timely implementation of GIS-related projects.
  • Assists in the development and management of GIS project plans including defining requirements, tasks, and resource assignments, ensuring that approved quality levels and deadlines are met.
  • Assists with the development of GIS project plans and schedules to include coordinating resources, tasks, and work assignments.
  • Maintains expertise in GIS-related software and technologies.
  • Updates progress sheets, completes documentation needed to support quality assurance procedures, and tracks daily activities.
  • Prioritizes data accuracy and fidelity to ensure a quality product.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education, Skills and Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geography, Earth Science, Engineering, Computer Science or a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience as a GIS Manager, GIS Coordinator, or similar position with professional-level experience in the design, development, implementation and administration of geographic information systems, including analysis and database development and integration.
  • A GISP Certificate is highly desirable
  • Preference giving for candidates with ARC PRO/ESRI, AutoCad, and/or Trimble Business Center experience.

  • Explain GIS-related technical issues and concepts to non-technical staff.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, peers, superiors, vendor representatives and clients.
  • Plan, manage, and implement GIS-related projects; assessing progress and making appropriate corrections to keep projects on track.
  • Plan, organize, supervise, review and evaluate the work of GIS project team staff in a manner that is conducive to independent judgment, and high performance and personal accountability.
  • Assess the spatial needs of a project and recommend solutions.

Additional Requirements

  • Must successfully pass a criminal background check.
  • Must pass a drug screening.
  • This job requires sitting and working in front of monitors for extended periods of time.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $62,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
