What are the responsibilities and job description for the EEG Technician position at Metis Foundation?
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
- Prepare patients for EEG examination.
Provides competent technical skills in the operation of equipment used to record EEGs and ensures patient safety.
Conduct quality electroencephalograms on patients in EEG or sleep laboratory.
Perform procedure set up to include explaining procedures to patients, positioning patients, and maintaining a sterile and controlled environment.
Perform operator maintenance of EEG equipment and ensures proper care and operation of the equipment used.
Process data and results from EEG machines.
Clean and maintain the EEG machine and equipment between tests.
Work with staff on the management of research subject files; copy and organize research data.
Maintain study records, master files, equipment, and supplies.
Collaborate with PIs to interpret research data for the protocol team.
Support the needs for data integrity and retrieval.
Participate in quality improvement and quality assurance initiatives involving database and data system development efforts.
Interface with other protocol support personnel.
Performs other duties as needed.
Distinguish artifactual and cerebral sources of electrographic findings.
Recognize clinical manifestations of different types of seizures as they occur and perform behavior testing to assess the degree of responsiveness during the recording.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Experience in scientific research is preferred.
- Knowledge of research data collection and data report preparation.
- Basic patient care principles and patient privacy/confidentiality are required.
- Understanding of research regulatory affairs procedures preferred.
- Demonstrated expertise in data management.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (MS Word, Excel, Outlook) and other spreadsheet applications.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written. Excellent analytical, organizational, and time management skills.
- Knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) is highly recommended; ability to learn research protocols and meet deadlines of projects.
Minimum Education/Training Requirements: High School Diploma or GED. Postsecondary certificate or associate degree preferred.
Minimum Experience: at least 2 years in a health care environment. At least one year of experience in past 2 years as an EEG tech performing EEGs independently in a clinical or research setting.
Physical Capabilities: Long periods of sitting, standing, and carrying light items.
Required Licenses, Certification, or Registration: Certification from AAET or ABRET
Work Environment: Office and laboratory area; possible evening and/or weekend hours.
